The 1977 release of the 45rpm single of Strawberry Letter 23 by The Brothers' Johnson was produced by A&M Records with a slightly pink center label (as opposed to the usual buff color that A&M uses), and had strawberry scent embedded into the plastic to make the record give off the odor of strawberries.

Also in 1977, Kraftwerk released a 12" promotion-only single of Neon Lights, made of fluorescent plastic. According to rumours, the single's production ended prematurely when the plastic was discovered to be toxic, adding to the records rarity.

I found this when I was trying to look up the average life span and quality of an acetate record. I picked up 2 dubplates of 187 Lockdown's LP (file under Speed Garage) from 1998.

i want to find both these now, man, i love color vinyl, i think they probally just said thet to stop pressing them cause it was costing them is all. never heard anyone die from color vinyl.

Well, they say when you freeze water in plastic bottles the toxins in the plastic are re-leased in the water. this color plastic could be true......surprised they stopped making it if so.

yea considering they'll keep a liquor store on every corner wit pork rines in every bodega and cigarettes behind the counter
