MPC 1000 configuring with Fantom X^

I purchase an MPC 1000 a few days ago and I need help with configurations. I currently have my Roland Fantom X setup as the master (MIDI Out) and the MPC 1000 as the slave (MIDI In). When ever I hit the the Roland keys the sounds that play are the MPC sounds instead of a rolands. When I try to use the MPC sequencer by triggereng it from the ROland the Fantom melody does not have the correct sounds . What an I doing wrong?

i just read this the other day and it helped me setup the Fantom X with my MPc 2000 Classic, i got it to the point where the fantom x is recording my mpc tracks in sync in the Audio Track Expansion, pretty cool, if you wanna just use the mpc as a drum machine, or if not use the mpc as the master and slave the board to sequence from the Mpc1000, follow the steps thorough in the above thread.

Your Welcome, thanks to you for helping a brother out after days of reading Roland Manuals and hearing Midi echo's trying to get these units

Check out the link and I did what it said, however I do not have a mixer. Is this a problem. If a mixer is not needed, then I still must be missing something. My goal is to be able to play melodies from the Fantom to the MPC 1000. Is there a mode that I need to be in? Go into record mode and record a melody as a sample. Can I record into the MPC's sequence from the Fantom w/o being in record mode. If this is possible which I am sure it is can I do it w/o a mixer. I am frustrated as hell, but I know I will figure out something. Current config: Fantom (MIDI out) > MPC (midi In) > MPC (Midi out) > Fantom (Midi In). Fantom is set as master (dont know if that is an issue) and I have audio cables going from the Fantom out to the MPC's Record ports.

I read the forumn post from the link you sent entirely, easier to focus at work. So it appears that I need to cop a mixer. If this is true do you have any suggestions between the $100 - $200 range.

If it was me needing a mixer i go check out a samson, yamaha, soundcraft, mackie , or berhinger, for 100 to 200, it looks like for now you could get a 4 input mixer at the pawn for dirt cheap, another suggestion this what i would do as of today, like i said this what i would do, some might disagree, i would route the mpc outs to the inputs of the fantom , and the fantom to your monitors or home stereo.
Then hit mix in key, get a gool level, now you could hear the mpc and fantom. Once you figured out how to configure your midi tracks within both machines you be set. this will be short term once you get a mixer.

I appreciate you helping me with my issue. I will probably go pick it up this week end. So if I get this and hook it up as you instructed the fellow MPC user in the forum link you sent to me I should be able to play melodies from the Fantom into the MPC's

And also I will be able to hear both. In your confirguration which sequencer do you use? I have gotten so used to using the visual suquencer that is on the Fantom, however people speak so highly of the mpc's sequencer.

i use both alot, mpc/master -fantom/slave = making beats on mpc and playing keys on Fantom; Then Fantom/Master -MPC/Slave = Using the Fantom to make beats and play parts on the Mpc Or Use the Phantom To track out my Mpc Tracks to The Audio Track Expansion applying effects and mastering then layering more parts from the Fantom, either way is ok, yes you will be able to hear both units once you get the mixer and the way i told you to set it up, over here im having fun with this setup and once you get it you be okay, my best advice is to read-read-read, the sequencer on both are great to me, since i been rocking the mpc for few im comfortable using it and applying the same experience to the Fantom X which i only had for 2 weeks, pretty much there are the same to me, both has its limits, im not no debate dude, so i run with what i buy and learn it and dont complain. Yeah thanks man I am going to pick up the behringer us 802, Not expensive and I figure wit will be fine for what I am trying to do. You have been a great help. I will let you know how it turns out.

I bought the Fantom back in Oct. and I that was first piece of equip ever. I like the sequencer, so I will find my style and run with it. I will also learn the MPC's sequencer as well. Like everything else it comes down to preference.

Fo sho its a learning curve thats overcomed by dedication and being well focus, keep us updated on this thread here when you get setup, there many more of us out there with MPC+Fantom Combo, hopefully this thread and Jacpot's tips could benefits newcomers and existing members to get an idea on how to configure. I seen threads on various forums that this setup is driving peeps mad, just be patient, just like my floppy loading time, and you be okay.

Their is no reason for this set up to drive people mad. Its very simple. I gave step by step instructions on how to do it. MIDI DOES NOT CARRY SOUND so u will need to plug the keyboard into the mixer.
