I'm new to diggin, is northern soul a good source for some samples?

I looked it up and its like uptempo soul from England.

The music itself was mainly from Detroit & Chicago ...... it is fairly obscure '60s US soul music that was popular in clubs in the north of England.

Is it a good source for samples?...... Well, on one hand any record is a good source for samples unless it is completely silent. However, if you just want to sample loops & phrases & do nothing in the way of chopping & re-arranging then obscure uptempo '60s soul records from Detroit & Chicago will be great if you want to make .... I guess something that sounds like uptempo '60s-style soul. Actually some of the more musical drum & bass producers work with this type of stuff.

Yeha man, its soul music. it has nothing to do with English people. For whatever reason, most likely because the Stones jacked the northern sound, English people drool over northern soul. its mostly an ebay keyword to trap Wealthy brits, but there definately is a different sound up north than elsewhere. nrothern menas anywhere around detroit.

Unless you have thousands to shell out for notrthern soul 45s I would smaple something else.

If they were no english the 45 would probably still be in th the $2 bin. The music was born in the US, most of it was an imitation of Motown, in its own time, a failure untill it got a second life in northern england a precursor to the rave scene, a miracle happened 10 years after everyone forgot about this music, with no support from any industry except amphetamine dealers. I am not sure northern soul is the most popular source for sampling, 45 are pricey these days but the music is beautiful and makes one wonder how it still is obscure today. You HAVE to check it out.
