i think that it does conduct that antistatic plastic, because to prevent static charge build-up, it would have to conduct the electricity away from the area that has a charge. a normal pastic would not do that.

the only problem with that stuff i can see is that it may not be conductive at the surface, though i could be wrong.

ok, so I opened my mpc1k to have a look at the pad's graphite contact:
the repairing work is not for amateurs, you need to have some experience with electronic gear, otherwise you're likely to damage something.

the chassi is well built, but the screws that hold individual pads are so soft that they're almost impossible to unscrew. the cables connected to the pad board are very short, making it a bit hard to disconnect. the trick to just remove the rubber pad works, but it's very easy to damage the rubber, when you're squeezing it back in place. If I was to repair my graphite plates in the future, I would choose to loosen the the metall frame that holds each the rubber pad, by gently loosen it from the opposite side.

you must be new to production, akai is not the only company that makes music production equipment, and they are far from the best, so get over the hype and demo some other machines

true as far as i can tell thus far. beats the sp404 sampler all OVER the ring.

hell, the mpc1000 sequencer sh!ts all over any software sequencer too, in my opinion. i was so sick of grid editing before i switched to hardware...
