Hard drives - warning!

Just a warning for all hard drive users - handle your hard drive very carefully, especially if you are removing it from the HD kit pretty often!

I bought a new 60gb fujutsi drive, along with a caddy type thing that connects to the computer to transfer files directly to or from the drive. This would be much quicker than doing it via the MPC, I don't have hours and hours free to spend waiting for files to transfer.

Anyway, the drive fits into the casing so tightly that you really have to yank it out to remove it. After removing the drive and swapping it from the MPC it a few times, I managed to break a pin on the back of the drive (even though I was being extra careful), and now the drive won't work. The place I bought it from wouldn't accept it back, even after me giving them loads of bullsh!t to explain it - I said it arrived with the pin missing! So at the end of the day, I wasted over £50. I'm really not sure whether to bother buying another hard drive, maybe just get a large capacity CF card instead, this whole thing has put me off.

Personally, I would recommend a fast card reader instead of hard drive casing to transfer files to and from the MPC - load them into the MPC then save to the hard drive. Try not to remove the drive unless you really need to - those pins aren't very strong.

I don't have the HD kit yet, but I would just set up a transfer to a computer overnight, or while at work through the usb cable, then you're not sitting around waiting for it, or breaking your drive.

i still use my 32 meg CF card, and it works great

i stay minimal, i like it this wya

sucks only workon on 2-3 projuect tops - but then it forces me to get some done rather than putting it off saying "i'll save and finish it later"

this is where having a farily large CF card comes in handy. I use a 512 now, but plan on moving to a 2 gig for backup. With that combo you can just backup after you had a few sessions and if 2 gig isn't enogh to back up a few sessions I don't know what you are doing. Because you figure that you already have all the stuff you want to load on your HD in your comp drive already. So once you get that inital load of stuff onto your MPC HD you will just need to make peridic back ups or songs and samples that you collected and like I said 2 gig should be plenty to back up every few days or weeks depending on how you make your back ups
