MPC 2000 XL or MPC 1000 for producing HOUSE?

Hello there,

I did use the search function on this forum, but after an hour of search I still could'nt find answers to my questions...

I'm considering buying an Akai tool for the job, which is creating house music. Is an MPC1000 or MPC2000 the right thing to get, or should I look out for something else?

I have already a Roland D2 groovebox in my possesion, but now I want to use something more professional.

I'm also planning on buying an Alesis Ion synthesizer plus a Novation Remote 25 (controller) in the future. Is a MPC a good choice to use it as a sequencer plus sampler in this setup?

i make house music- the mpc i find is perfect- extremely tight, intuitive and damn good fun....

cant comment on the 1k....only came here to ask a q meself but can't ignore a fellow house head....

well, i am mostly into electro beats these times, but some years ago i made a lot of house stuff on the MPC 2000 XL. You cannot go wrong with that box, and the MPC 1000 is not by any means worse.

I'm a tech/house/breaks guy myself. The MPC1k will work great in your setup. Just remember its is made to be primarily a kik butt sampler/drum machine-sequencer (no MPC is a full on sampler) This will add greatly to your current set up.
Where I live (mpls) almost all the house/tech cats use the mpc of some kind to make beats, I know allot of us have even sold the 2000 and 2000xl
to get the 1000. Mpls is a big music town and live PA's are big here.

A mpc that can load samples in minuets and have the same feel and sound as the original MPC's is more than a blessing.

Just think... a drum machine that really sounds like a 808 or 909.
crisp clean hats and deep bass with efx!
just name any old school house producer and you can bet cash he is doing it on a mpc. what kind of house are you working on?

I know alot of house guys that use the mpc just for the drum tracks. Also it is very nice if you ever plan to do live pa since you can program your different drum patterns and switch them easily.

Akufen is the illist! out here in Mpls we have a night called MICRO HOUSE
it really is based all around the new chopped up click-house sound alone with minimal acid house as well.
I do even hear in the clubs some of the commercial club house jocks throwin it down.

its a big sound, if you like that take a look at Todd Edwards or any of the UK garage/2step flavas of the last few years. Todd Edwards is the real pioneer of that sound.

The German click house DJ/producers have for sure.. taken that sound to the next level.

It's amazing; I post a question at noon and 5 hours later I have al lot of answers...


I produce house/clubhouse and also some tech-house. For now I use only my Roland D2 groovebox, but it's not so easy and no fun to program some synth and bass lines without a keyboard controller. Making drum parts on it is ok, but no fun also.

I haven't made much tracks yet, but that's because I'm also a dj and I'm pretty new to producing.

I'm planning to use the mpc (and other gear in the future) on a live pa-set when playing a vinyl set. (I already do that with my D2.)

yeah ive heard micro house is doing well in the US....dunno if i could listen to a whole night but some of those tunes are just sick....

You should consider using a MPC 3000 or SP1200. Most of the good producers like Kenny Dope Gozales and Todd Terry use both machine to do there beats. But If you dont have the funds get a MPC 1000 it will do the same.
