Is the q-link continous or only note-on?

well after all my moaning i cant find the answer in the archives so will ask this with trepidation....my mate wants to buy a mpc1k so wants to know:

is the q-link completely continous or like the nv slider on the 2k which only works on note on?....

is there anywhere else to get the 128mb upgrade other than akai?
