I don't believe my MP is recognizing the hard drive i installed - leading me to believe i have installed wrong. I think the only thing i haven't done is to remove the jumper on the device - the only problem is i'm not sure what a jumper is or how to remove it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, how will i know when everything is installed correctly? Will the free memory show up under the hard drive area when in saving mode? Thanks!

Try using Google Images with something like "harddrive jumper". For example http://www.hiroinc.com/Harddrive/hd2.jpg is what a jumper looks like.

You will know when your HD works if you can select it in the top of the Load/Save screen instead of "Memory Card" or "Internal Memory".

Good luck,
Stilo.

As i look closer at that image, it looks like the jumper would prevent the hard drive from connecting...but i'm not having trouble plugging in the device to the MP. Everything seems to be connected properly but i'm getting no response from the MP. Also, i am using a brand of drive that was from the reccomended list on the Akai pro site. What next, any thoughts?

Don't worry, the jumper won't interfere with the connector. But it's possible that its setting prevents the MPC from recognizing the drive. Did you already try removing it? Does the Harddrive spin up if you power on the MPC? You'll have to put your ear close to it to hear, maybe even with the front cover still off.

And by the way, you'll have to format the drive in the MPC first before using it of course...

Hardrive appears to be spinning upon powering up, however not quite sure how to format the drive. :?

you gotta format the drive in the mpc. go to the LOAD menu and choose UTILITY and format through there.

i got the 80g drive and no jumpers needed to be tweaked.

Thanks trizz, i will do that. I have the Hitachi 80G drive as well. I'm hoping it streamlines things for me.
