what synth/keyboard to get 2 use with my 2000?

hi peeps just wondering if any of ya could tell me what keyboards/synth's you use?

as im looking to buy 1 very soon,i produce mainly hip hop so im looking for a keyboard that has some good basses and synth's.


ive been looking at these micro korgs the 1 with the mic looks pretty good some one told me theres some good basses on there?

im looking to spend about £300 max

if any of ya could help us out and give your views on what to get,be much appreciated.

the moog is good, depends on what type of bass you are looking for. it all comes down to eq, patches compression and stuff. roland juno106 if you can find one.

i use a microkorg and it is ill. the only problem is that it aint multi timbre but theres ways around that. the basses are ill too. i dont fuk wit that mic though so i really couldnt tell u about that.

My budget is around £1500 and I'm lookin for good bass and realistic sounding samples of real instruments. Any suggestions?

I don't want to just go for the Korg Triton for example because it seems over played out!

Any help is appreciated.

stanstilloo7, i think the micro korg is not a bad idea for that budget.

My friend, it depends what your looking for & for what genre...The triton has been pretty good for synths, but has also been the most used and abused in the genre of hiphop, theres the yamaha motif which has very nice and authentic sounding instruments...the yamaha has sharp sounding brass, strings, guitars...things of that nature....theres also the roland xp...and then u have alternatives man....Like myself, I got an 88 Key studio triton (why? is the question everyone asks) and I got it cause thats gonna b my last keyboard (unless its some vintage shit ) I'm ever getting....so at the same time I can use my triton for a midi controller too.... A cheaper set up for you in terms of a keyboard would be for you to get a nice midi controller (M-audio has a nice one thats very flexible) ,.,.you can use that M-audio keyboard with some vst's and have practically unlimited sounds to correlate with your mpc, since there are so many good vst's out there that emulate older keyboards like the mini-moog ,.,.So its really based on what you wanna do. The main Keyboards out are Roland xp fantom, Yamaha motif, Korg triton..and the rest are old joints...mini moog, roland juno sh*t, kurzweill keyboards, yamaha dx-7, rhodes (vintage keyboard) , .,.,do a lil research before u place ya investment on something.,.,you might not even b a keyboard kinda guy.,.,you probably can get the rack version of some of the more modern keyboards and amp out.,.,.,good luck wit ya quest b.,.,100

But yeah man, i mainly produce hip hop, but i'm really lookin for REALISTIC real instruments like u mentioned: strings, brass and ESPECIALLY a good piano sound!!! imperitive. Also good bass!

I'm lookin to take my music back to tha 80's. i need those real instruments cos i cant afford session musicians!

I also kinda wanna get off VSTs cos i've been using them from day 1 and i'm bored of clickin tha mouse. I prefer hardware. Its more flexible and portable wen used with the MPC! plus no need to worry about RAM!

I did consider the Motif and the Roland Fantom cos the Triton IS over played out! I'm still researchin anyway!

well god luck wit that,.,.and you don't need to click a mouse to control vst's.,.,.,you do want a midi controller tho.,.,so u can lay those sounds all over the keys.,..,go to ya local sam ash or guitar center.,.,check them keyboards out.,.,you should get what you want out of a yamaha motif,.,.the strings /gutiars/brass,.,.,.crisp!!

I'm running an MS2000BR, and a Proteus2500. I dig both, but if had it to do over again I would scrap the the Korg for an Access Virus. The Korg is really limited on simultaneous timbres and voices. (2 tims, 4 total voices). The Proteus is mad configurable, you can really dial in a sound. The drum presets are dope if you have the MoPhatt upgrade. As far as VST's, I like my Rhodes '73 (no sub for the real) and an organ called the Dr. Phibes.

Emu PK-6 (its the Proteus 2000 keys) Nice keyboard to use wit an MPC.

I went into Digital VIllage (www.dv247.com) to try out a couple of synths and liked the Korg Triton the best to be honest. I tried the Yamaha Motif ES6 and Roland V Synth as well.

However, when i saw the Yamaha CLP-240 digital piano, i fell in love instantly!!! It had a much better piano sound than on any other synth workstation i've heard.

Therefore, I'm gonna buy the CLP-240 digital piano and then perhaps get the Roland Fantom XR rack for extra sounds. like i sed i wanna take ma music back to the 80's so i desperately need a decent piano sound without splashing out on a real piano.

PS: I believe John Legend was using a digital piano on the set of Kanye's West's live orchestral concerts (in the London concert at least)

a keyboard that IS multitimbral... THis means that you can play more than one sound at a time. THese included keyboards like the MOtif, Triton, Fantom, and tons of others...

The MS2000 is not recommended - I have one. It excels as a controller and a programmable patch generator.

If you are on a low budget, but still want a keyboard that performs like the latest; I recommend the Kurzweil K2000(VP). google it....

If that advice was intended for me, I'll be using the Fantom XR as my multitimbral instrument. I already have a controller keyboard, which will 'control' the Fantom. And when I get the CLP-240 digital piano, it will be able to control all my synths as it has MIDI IN/OUT/THRU
