spotting reissues

how can you tell if you've got an o.g. or an "oh... gee"?

theres no real way, but if your record cover is white and thin most likely it's a reissue if you have a record that has a brown or thicker cover to it the most likely it's OG, you can also look at the cover art and see it it looks blury then you have a reissue the OG has a sharper look to it and the art is very define,
sound quality wise you can tell by sound you hear a reissue sounds sort of thin and tink sounding the OG sounds very clear and has the heavy bass,
usually too theres numbers in the runout groove that people can tell by , but i havent figured that one out yetanother thing they say is that an OG has herbie jr and =) this symbol on the runout. but i think that goes for the 80's though i dont know about the 70's and later.

if its CLASSIC and in a RECORD STORE, and its BRAND NEW and not in the used section, odds are thats its a reissue...

This would only be for records mastered at Frankford Wayne in New York by Herb Powers. It isn't going to apply to records from anywhere else mastered by anyone else. Below is an old "Off Topic" post about him that should really have been here on "Crate Diggers".

nont allways tru i got a never been open stan turpentine reocrd from 1975 that i scored from a used record store it's OG never been open has the OG wraping on it i dont want to open it ,i need to find out whats on it. has a price tag of a value store from the 70s

so thats not allways tru....
i actually got a counrty record like that from an estate sale too that was never open in a buch of 40's jazz records

yeah i can agree but finds like that only come when you buy from other collectors.

alright. This isn't about an obscure funk record, or anything, tho- I just copped Common's 'Resurrection' 12" with Large Pro/Extra P remixes. I've never seen this joint before. It was in the used section, but the record and sleeve are both in pretty good condition.

neber know on new ones these days it may be a OG but then again it could be a reissue i heard they hwere outtin out his stuff again as reissue
either way you got it right? what does it matter play that sh!t .

i just scored on 9 brand new represses that i would never probablly find in good shape or for the price i found them for
