here's my little story to share...

i work at a used music equipment store. there is sht everywhere.
its just a huge ass mess in there.
so anyway, for the last few weeks right by the door sitting on the floor
by the trashpile was a tascam 244 oldschool 4 track.
the 4 track tape recorder part was broken so the store was just throwing it out.
i walked by it a million times on my way out of the store.
so finally one day i was like "fck it i'm take this before they throw it out. who knows when i need an extra mixer..."

it sat in my kitchen for another few weeks.
the other day i finally hook it up.....

this joint is crazy!
the preamps and eq sound good and running stuff through it with the gains on 10 sounds insane. my rhodes, drums, anything. it sounds crazy!! especially compared to going straight into my computer through a tube preampe. the pre's on this mixer color in such a more immediately pleasing way. i'm still shocked...

so basically the moral of the story is that the dumbest piece of garbage you walk by multiples times a day could actually be the little piece of the puzzle you've been missing all this time...

Never sleep on other people's junk!!

I found a set of old 1930's fireproof 7'x5' steel cabinets on the curb.

They now safely house a few thousand dusties. :D

word word.
i'm pretty happy with it.
there's lots of treasures to be found in the garbage.
furniture, equipment, all types of goodies....

... but on the real though, i know people that eat out of the trash.
these aren't poor people mind you. people with jobs and houses and mad equipment. people nowadays CHOOSING to dig for food outta dumpsters even though they got money. i am not exagerating. sht's retarded...

there is so much crap in the store its ridiculous... there's a room only FILLED with broken equipment thats just sat there for years. we (workers) always tell the owners just to have a broken equipment sale but they won't (common sense is not their strong point).

here's a perfect example.
one day from the back room they pulled out an asr 88 (its an asr-10 with 88 keys). it had the output expander, scsi, everything. but it had some issue with it. i think it wouldnt boot up correctly or didnt load disks. something that could probalbly be fixed for a minimal cost.

they pulled it out one day (of course it was a day that i had aboslutely no money) and sold it to some random guy for......

$150.....

 !!!!!!!

the output expander by itself is worth a couple hundred!! i couldnt believe it. a couple weeks later i saw the guy that bought it and he said he got it fixed for i think less than $100. he probalbly sold it to someone else and made like $500 or $600 profit off it.

so much broken stuff that just sits there. its sad. like a graveyard of equipment....

they are die hard about it. its crazy.

i remember i was hanging out with this girl (who is actually an elementary school teacher). some how we got on the subject of dumpster diving and she starts talking about how she'll dumpster dive for food at pizza places. telling me its perfectly fine food that shouldn't go to waste....

i was like "...man, GET THE FUK OUTTA HERE WITH THAT SHT!"

...and another time i remember i was telling another one of my friends how i was trying to eat and drink healthier cause i feel like crap all the time. so my friend goes "oh i have LOTS and LOTS of carrot juice. i'll hook it up." i'm thinking thats really cool but then i remember he dumpster dives all the time. i ask him where he got it...

he's like "oh i got it all out of a dumpster. its cool though..."

man AGAIN i had to say thanks but no thanks. keep that shit away from me.
i'm telling you i'm trying to get healthier and you trying to give me juice you found in a dumpster???

nah son.....

(oh... and that 4 track is a dinosaur, and im proud of it!!)
peace.
