im amaze at kanyes beats.there fukin hottttt.how the hell does he do it,hoe does combine vocals and the sample together.does he remove the drum sounds or does he layer over them.how does he do it???does he only sample records with acappelas on them or what????

When you can't get the vocals only you filter until mostly heard are the vocals..

If you wanna drown out everything and leave only bass you can use 2 or 4 pole lowpass and have a ready made bass for a bassline..

ASR10 filters are EXCELLENT at both technniques..

Hey Lampdog, is filtering the vocals out a similar process as making a bassline from a sample(filtering out the mids and highs)? Do you filter out the lows to get the vocals only?

whats teh best way for me to use filters? i have mpc 1000 and a pc ?

Software! Soundforge 7 ....... Cool Edit has some nice Filters to.

Use EQ too

on sondforge what should i go under?if i wann jus keep the vocals and if i wanna take out the drum sounds??does kanye go threw the same process?does he sample from mpc then to pc for filtering then back to the mpc?

Does soundforge 6 have similar high, low filters?

major label producers tend to find what they want on vinyl, then find the original recordings and session masters considering the budget.

so ur sayin kanye doesnt really sample of the vinly.he gets the masters which has the instrumental and the voals right?cause i be wonderin how he has the vocal on the tracj then drops it and he still has the melody..

A. Filtering vocals will mess up the original vocals. You can try it and see what happens.. If you are looking for altered vocals then it might suite you.. Any you will NEVER be able to get vocals ONLY unless you find an accapella or old style records with vocals only on one side or if vocals are mono and everything else is stereo then it is possible to seperate the two.

A. Experimentation, everyone had different tastes, find your style of filter settings and run with it...

A. Effects, EQ, paragraphic.. Play with it a while.. To get drums put the sample through a gate ie.. threshold -9db, release 100ms, attack 1. That is just one way to get drums but it's not perfect.. then you can chop drums from there. I use autoregion to chop in SF.. You gotta ask Kanye how he does it, I have my own ways of doing things..

A. They will find and use dam near ANYTHING they get their hands on and twist it into something that newbies and some other pros can't immediately recognize, then the newbies come on the forums asking about it.. haha

A. I can't speak for Kanye, but you can experiment, go ahead, nothing is stopping you..
