video video video Akai Please!

god you guys can be jackasses. Yes i learned my MPC1k and 4k on my own, thats how i learn all my gear. (it helps you figure out wierd ways to use it)
But to punk on someone for a good (and common) idea, is retarded. Video manuals are common now days, and for the most part an awesome supplement to a reference manual. It is a little much to expect anything that organized from akai though.

it's NOT a good idea, because a video manual is not going to get someone any further into production if they don't have the motivation to learn their machines.

production is not for the faint of heart. you said it yourself - learning stuff yourself helps you learn nontraditional ideas about its implimentation. videos would preclude this kind of innovation.

sparq's videos are fine, albeit unnecessary. they were good when i didn't have os 2.1. however, small, specialized videos like that are a different matter than a HOW TO USE YOUR MPC1000 VIDEO.

Cause like it or not "being a producer" is as trendy as spitting a rhyme now, sometimes even moreso (just look at all the beatmaking/scratching toys in a toys r us). So watch those high horses guys. =)

eh, it's not a high horse, just honest advice to people who don't yet know their mpc.

easier way outs are NOT going to help you...you need to throw yourself into your sampler with incomparable passion. take incredible delight in every new trick that you learn.

let's put it this way - if your jaw isn't dropping when you learn a new and powerful trick that you didn't think you were capable of before, you probably don't have the patience to produce.

i think trendiness in production is funnier than trendiness in rap, because although both take a LOT of time, production takes a lot more patience and openmindedness. it's not at ALL the glamorous image that some believe...it's one of the most humbling experiences out there.

anyone can pick up a violin and make sounds with it, either by running the bow across the strings, or plucking them.

asking someone to make a video on how to play a violin, and then expecting to be as good as yehudi menuhin after watching it, is daft.

being a virtuoso violinist takes years of practice. Personally, i think it's the same for producing. Though it is a trendy thing to be a producer, there are few that are truly great. imho antonym is a hopeful, he clearly is well on his way, and definately has the drive and ambition to become a professional. Before you say things like "watch those high horses guys" to someone, you should make sure you know what their work is like. Before i remove my nose from nym's ass however, i'd like to say, that being good, and knowing you're good, does not under any circumstances give you an excuse to be arrogant. That is the most deplorabe trait in a person as far as i can see, and, yes nym, i mean you too! so watch it, or else!

These are my last words on the topic, modnar is right. Expecting someone to watch a video and then be able to emulate something is assnine, and was in no way even implied. It's a REFERENCE video. Becoming "pro", or whatever you think success is in the music business takes WORK, not reference guides. =)

Also, after being on this board for almost 3 years (not an appeal to authority, just stating the duration of my examination), there are a LOT of people on this forum who put themselves on pedestals. I'm not pointing fingers, i just find it hillarious that all these people i have never heard of, get their kicks trying to bag on admited newbies, for being just that, "new". (and im not just refering to this post.)

i agree, there's far too much pedestal perching, but having said that, there is, most definately, a difference between being new and being stupid. i know that not knowing something isn't necessarily being stupid, but having the ability to post questions on the forum means that the people i speak of have the ability to read and use a computer, and therefore have no excuse not to have read and understood the manual. [/my 2p]

Yeah, i'm all for instruction video's.
Marley Marl was nothing until he got that EMU instructions VHS back in '86.
i believe it was called "In Control" and it tought him how to make those beats step by step.

Sparq's videos were definitely helpful to me. Big ups to that cat. Yeah I probaly would of figured out most of the stuff with out them, but he explained every feature very well and My MPC's even named now!!!
