[quote="elmacaco"]Brainwash was just trying to help, and he did help everyone else who read and appreciated his post. I think that's a hot tip, whether it is for newbies or not.
Ooooh, tips via PM, wow, you don't want to loose your edge by giving all those hard lessons of experience away to everyone on the board, oh no!
If it needs that kind of protection, then what you have is not really skill, but secrets.
Don't just dis someone trying to help to claim some kind of ultimate authority. Just because you know the traditional rules doesn't mean you know best.
You seem all right, but it seems like you are here just to be a big fish in a little pond, and that helps no one.

contradiction.........if freq gives tips thru pm that means he helps ppl......

Thanks for the links and info. given on the cats who replied to my post - appreciation is given my people.

I'll probably go pro-tools LE but definitely will have to get another pc or a mac g3/g4 since digidesign won't support Win2000.

YO THANKS TO ALL FOR THE TIPS, BUT Freq is right, I understand how to USE a mixing board and the steps you go throught to set it up to eq, know the MPC's mixer is crap, and how to use a parametric eq etc. I was looking for just what he hit me with, specific frequency range info for the mixdown. I actually moved the bass in the stereo field to a different place and took his eq advice and it worked out just fine. (thanks again freq)

BUT thanks to ALL who came with idea, and not "search to forums" GOOD LOOKING OUT to ALL of you cats.

holla!

I didn't read all the posts so this may have been mentioned but....you don't master a single tune. Mastering is primarily for a collection of tunes and the process simply matches EQ's and levels. It als is used to remove pops, clicks, glitches etc and perhaps add noise reduction. To mke a single sound good, it starts with the recording and ends with the mix. If you want it crisp and clear you have to strt with hot, clean source material. A mastering engineer cannot do much to clean up a dirty track. If it's muddy we can pull some of the mids and boost the highs but you're better off doing this in your mix. It's much better to assign different tracks a frequency range (via EQ) than to process your whole mix. If it's not a good mix you'll have spent your money on mastering and wont be happy with the outcome.

Dr. Foo, you asked about mixing a deep bassline with a deep kick. I don't know what freq pm'ed you about, but this is what I'd try: stick a gate / ducker on your bassline, and trigger it with your kick. That will let the bass run full-on when the kick's not there, and when the kick drops, the bassline will be temporary turned down, to let the kick shine through.

I wouldn't mess around with the stereo field too much... I think you'll want your bassline and kick panned center. (Ever heard a bassline or kick panned off-center in headphones? Sounds really weird, I think.) No doubt you could EQ it up too, but I don't know enough about EQ'ing to make any particular recommendations.

Freq, so sorry if this steps on your toes. But to continue your "people talking in a room" analogy, if someone asks a question out loud, and the answer is whispered in their ear, that just doesn't sit right. This is an open conversation.

Mic Pro Crusher, working with both Agnostic Front and Run-DMC isn't that odd. Rick Rubin worked with Johnny Cash, The Beastie Boys, and Slayer. A good engineer's going to know what to do. Besides, both came out of NYC at the same time, in similar depressed conditions.
