When I'm using layers to fix up a sound so I'd like to start the second sample layer not directly but couple of mili sec after the hit on the pad so you can create really cool sounding snares and kickz.

With reason I did this all manually but is there a way to set the starting point / for the samples on each layer ?

i think the start point function in reason (i assume here you're talking about the NN-XT) works by altering the point along the sample's length that play starts, not by delaying it.

to do the same thing in the mpc, go to page 69 in the manual.

hope this helps.

Take the sample into Trim mode and insert a couple ms of silence before the start point?

Heheh if you can tell me how to do that I'll would be soooo happy

While I was reading it over I came to the conclusion that I was right this is not the way to do it. When you change your setting for this the sample layer change but aswell the other layers on the pad. The settings are ment for a pad not a single layer :S

i see, sorry my bad, i didn't absorb that you wanted different settings for each individual layer. i guess what alpha male says is you only option, but if you want it just like in reason, then you could also trim a few samples off the beginning of the sample to get a similar effect to reason. doing it that way would mean that you could not modulate the effect whilst playing, ie. it would ultimately be 'hardwired' into that particular layer.

hope this helps.

this is why i say the MPC1k lacks editing functions, No gain option, or insert option as far as i know, i'd be REALLY happy if it had a copy/paste function, but alas no. Anyone found a good solution that doesnt involve resampling?
w3rd.

Here is my own creative Idea's during a jam session that ook 4 hours straight.

I have found away to do what I actually wanted still is it kinde of a work flow but I thought I shared with ya guys.

For what I wanted I just played a pattern with a sample on a single track. Then copyed the track over to another track and transpose the pad to a differend pad. While doing this I also shift it to a early time that track with 10 clicks. this gave me the effect that I intentionly wanted. ;)

For thos who wonder how to create empty ness before a sample it is actually pretty easy. set recording to main and play a pad. Then wait a couple mili sec and hit it again Save the recorded sample and you got your self a sample with some empty space in front of it. Discard the first hit on the pad and with the sample edit you can adjust the starting point to the right position so you got you timing right.

I found alot of other cool work arrounds for some awesem stuff ;) but I'll share that mabey a later time.

thnx for replying any ways. but it seems that still doing research on your own always gives the best result no offence to some off the greatest mpc heads on this form. Still love this form for motivation an learning curve ;)_

it should be a forum requirement to have that tattooed onto the inside of newcomers eyelids.

I don't have the manual in front of me, but im pretty sure that if you're in the trim page and you press edit, one of the edit options up there with DISCARD, EXTRACT, etc. is insert silence. [EDIT: to the other poster, it does have a normalize function, which increases a sample's gain. And I don't know what you mean you can't copy and paste... just layer the samples together. It might not be a single audio file, but in sample based music thats a advantage in terms of sonic manipulation.]

Or how bout this: route the pad to the Delay effect, turn up the FX send all the way up and turn the main out all the way down. Set the feedback to a minimum (so it doesn't keep repeating) and adjust the delay time to taste. Plus, doing it this way sets you up to bust some really cool tricks by playing with the delay rate or feedback during a fill or transition to another part.

These are cool and nice trickz aswell but they don't give me the result I wanted.
I meant that one sample on a pad say on layer 1 start before the second layer kicks in this give a cool effect. Since you can use the attack from one sample and decay from a other this way creating a new kind of sound.
With the edit function in the trim mode you can't insert silence only change a selection to silence so it doesn't add extra sound region.

With the copy and past function I meant doing this in the sequence edit mode not in trim mode. There you can select a track and midi events to edit them. There you copy and transpose events. I don't like to use effect for timing my event since I can only use about 2 without boucing the track true. and flatteren the sound. ;) Use your effect wisely don't use them if you can get a similar effect with out using you SFX banks.

i think i undestand what you want to do. have you tried editing the second sample on the computer? i know programs like audacity, you can add silence to the beginning (or where ever you want) of the sample. edit it there then bring it back to the mpc and layer it with whatever sample you want.

it's a longer way around but would work the same.

Ofcourse i know how to do that, but the only thing is I don't have a computer at my disposel at the moment. So I have to jam the MPC on standalone mode wich lets me work with the limited editing function in the MPC
