SCSI Zip drive problems!!! Won't detect SCSI Drive!!!

i just bought this scsi zipdrive from ebay. 100MB Iomega zip drive and i have folloowed all of the instructions to get this thing to work. I set the zip drive on channel 5 and set the terminate to on. I also set the channel on the mpc to 5. But no matter what i do it won't detect it. I have plugged the scsi wire into both ports on the zip drive and that was no luck. But it seems like the mpc communicates with it because when i press the button to activate the yellow light coms on the zip drive. But ultimately it says cannot find it. Any help?

Once you have got the basic connections, ID selections and terminations correct then you will need to format and make active the SCSI ZIP disc before you can use it.

The error would or should have returned as FF48 and then some more numbers in brackets. ( these kind of help to identify the problem ).

Try changing the SCSI drive ID in the FORMAT screen to AUTO instead of selecting an actual target number.

It started trying to format on auto. But the zip drive started to click for about a minute and stated hard disk format Failure. And here is the error code: [FF51:303/31/91]

That is the info I needed.

Allow me a little time to look up my error list.

Before the more detailed reply though and without even checking my info list it sounds like the ZIP drive/Zip cart or combination of both is bad.

After checking.

The "303" code is a "non recoverable data error".

The "31" and "91" are SCSI messages that are returned from the ZIP drive over the SCSI bus when the MEDIA ( disk ) can't be used properly, or the drive can't be communicated with in a correct manner...

Could indicate a bad ZIP disk or ... a bad ZIP drive, or both.

You know where to go from here.

IE: Try another cart in your ZIP, or, another drive in your ZIP cart in your ZIP drive.
