Hi All,
FYI, several times in the last few days, I load 10 or so programs, erase the ones I don't like.
When I purge 180 + samples, the machine freezes up.
Is there a bug list or AKAI person I can report this to?
And, by the way, this machine is awesome, with V2 it really is one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever owned. Wicked.

mine's never frozen, but it does tell you to WAIT for a LOOOONG time.

give it a couple minutes if it needs.

I had this happen to me to for the first time the other day

Loaded up a folder of Scott Storch Kicks and another one of Hats I think, put the ones I wanted on pads. Tried to purge like 200+ samples and it fa-roze!

Guess the CPU just cant handle moving that sort of date around, it aint like some 3Ghz PC with 2G of memory so I guess it can be expected. Just gotta alter work flow I guess ( first time I'd tried this method of putting a program together) and be sure to save often!

Are you guys sure it actually froze? I have had my MPC take 20-30 minutes to purge, but never actually had it freeze. You should wait longer the next time around.

20-30 minutes is FROZE to me! The machine obviously aint upto purging that many samples so Ima just gonna work round it so it doesn't become an issue.

Although thanks foe the info...if I happen to be working on some DOPE beat (very unlikely) and havent saved, should this problem arrise I now know that if I leave it for a while it may sort itself out.

Yeah I have had it take 10 minutes, gone away came back and it was finally done.

I think the MPC is doing something similar to defragmenting a hard drive when u purge, but within its RAM instead. Still amazing it takes that long though lol.

I used to load folders of samples, assign a few to pads, and purge the rest. But as the folders grew larger, the purging time grew exponentially. Now with OS 2.1 and the ability to audition samples from the LOAD screen, I never load entire folders anymore. I just audition samples and load the ones I want. BTW, auditioning samples has always been around. It was just never on the LOAD screen. You had to go one screen further before you could hear the sample. Now it's a breeze to fly through a folder of samples -- auditioning each one. Actually, it would be nice to have an "auto audition" feature. Imagine just turning the dial and having each sample play for you. It would also be nice to have a page up/down control for scrolling through those extra large folders. :D

I think I waited ten minutes then gave up.
It seems the way to go on this box is to audition from the load screen and fill up your programs that way....

.....the more you purge the longer it takes. Even on the 2500 it is the same.So if your purging 120 samples it will take a long time. You really should be loading just the samples you are going to use in a blank program and give it a project name for that particular beat or sequence or song, whatever.Auditioning your wavs is the answer to this problem
