Newbie with the MPC1000!!

I need some advice....

Im trying to figure out the best way to use all of the different gear/software together. Id like to maybe try and learn the sequencer in MPC since I hear so much good stuff about it and the ease of it. Although I do the majpority of my sequencing in reason...actually now more in pro tools and get everything into audio. But I bought the mpc for its swing, feel, and sampler (just to have some experiencing sampling in hardware) and for the dum pads.

I have the classic motif for its sounds. Thats pretty much it...oh and cuz its a real keyboard I like to jam out...i like how it feels...Id be using that mainly recording audio into pro tools.

I love reason as a sound module...mainly redrum...trigger redrum with MPC...but using mpc time and feel and quantization.

so my predicament is how to use the mpc time and feel and quatiziation abilities..as i guess the master(h,mm right term...) and trigger reason redrum or maybe more who knows...keep it simple for now with mpc...
Then get all that into pro tools to do mixing add effects and stuff.. But id like to be able to use the motif to jam out and record into pro tools using the mpc time and feel...that click.

So i guess my question is how do I sync everything to follow mpc time and feel quantization and get it into pro tools and have pro tools following mpc click?

My setup:
Win XP
MBox1 Pro Tools LE
Usb Midiman
Classic Motif

Thanks I appreciate any suggestions how to make this work.

well,
it's a tad complicated and i don't know the spec of the midiman USB 2in-2out is it?
BUT definatley Tools or Reason should be the master midi clock sync. I haven't tried it the other way with the new OS 2 but regulary sync MPC's to computers the standard computer is master way and it just works. It also give me a great buzz to press the space bar and have the MPC kick in but that's my personal problem hehe.

Also, I recommend drawing a flowchart of your equipment midi ins-outs and see if that helps you figure it out. Once you know what goes where you can set the midi parameters accordingly.

More help forthcoming i'm sure.In in the meantime I hope this helps a bit.

MPC is always going to be a slave to another sequencer, be it PT, Reason, etc. If you want to just be able to run instruments with the MPC sequencer, try a program called Brainspawn Forte. It's like a virtual rack for VSTi's and other software samplers/instruments. Use your MIDI keyboard into the MPC, and then MPC out to your computer, running Brainspawn.

This will NOT however act as a recorder. Forte is more for live situations, but I'm pretty sure theres a way to Rewire the audio back into ProTools, if you have the CPU juice.

just a little correction. i use the mpc to be master of reason all the time.

Okay well maybe not reason, LOL. Reason is a little different anyway because its not a full fledged sequencer like Cubase or ProTools. I just wasnt really thinking about it.

horses for courses.

anywayyy

Reason/ MPC combo is where it's at right? I'm in the process of switching over as the sounds are on point. But can you track out to it? In which case is it worth just forgetting Tools is this setup?

Thanks for the info! i followed sparqs advice (by the way...sparq is the man...he knows what hes doing) I got mpc to be the master and have reason sync up with it. Thats where its at...amazing....

Then the problem came when syncing pro tools and mpc...for some strange reason.....in pro tools i enabled mid beat clock....chose my out usb midi 1X1 and when i pressed play on pro tools....pro tools played....no mpc. Then when I pressed stop in pro tools....mpc came on.
The tempo field said {EXT} and then went back to the tempo of the tune. But they will not play together. Pro tools only will control mpc when I press stop....

some weirdness...

So all in all...I want to use pro tools for editing and mixing...I want to use the MPCs feel and time...and i want to use reason as a sound module...and trigger it from the mpc...mainly redrum. Oh yea and the motif as a sound module as well prolly can just record into pro tools as audio.

any help gladly appreciated.

My setup:

Win Xp
MPC1000
Reason 2.5
USB MIDIMAn 1X1 oh I also...have my santa cruz turtle beach sound card.
Pro Tools Le 6.4 MBoX 1
motif classic
