I think as long as you know the original note of the original sample you can pitch it and keymap it to part of a keyboard. You can always check this with a tuner program. I doubt you can make one program to pitch every sample the same way.

I checked that one program with blue box for the 1000 pitch mapping, doesn't seem to be programmed to do anything.

wait... so is there any way load a sample and play it on an attached midi keyboard with the correct pitching? so for example if i was using a sample tuned to c, would it play at c when i pressed the c key and d when i pressed the d? all i want to do is load a sine wave and play basslines with it on the keyboard.

You could do this with some programming. You load the sample and set your pads to midi notes. The best way to set your pads to midi note numbers is with Blue Box. That program has an auto chromatic feature that just sets your pads to midi notes in in order. You can also easily assign the one sample to each pad with Blue Box. This does not set your pitch of the samples. Then you take the time to pitch each pad. I know it'll take time but it will be worth it. The best way to check the sample pitch would be with a free tuner for your Mac or Pc. Just send the audio to your computer input and the tuner program should track the pitch pretty well.

I repeat you have to set the correct pitch to each pad for whatever keyrange you want. You can do an octive or four octives.

I downloaded a program set that did this with a saw wave or something. I never tested it nor do I remember where I got it from.

Edit: I found the sets that I said I downloaded. I just don't know where I got them from nor whether I can upload them somewhere.

how come 16 levels dont work with midi for the 1000? wouldnt it be easier to send out that feature via midi rather than making a whole tuned program? sometimes i just wanna play using keys for a certain tuned sound..

I have a pgm that I made on the 2500 that I used to trigger ext keyboards or modules that is similar to the 16 level function and the autochromatic tuner function on the 2000xl. I used bank A thru D, A-16 being the highest note and D-1 being the lowest note. I changed the midi note numbers in the pgm window for each pad to acheive the effect of the autochromatic tuner for the pads to trigger ext gear in scaled order instead of randomly across the pads. later I realized you could also change the tune of each pad in scale, the same way, then assign what ever sample you want to each pad to have the full 16 level range of that sample and even more.only one thing about that though, you would have to konw a thing or two about pitch so your samples wont be out of tune with other perfectly tuned gear.If there is a way i can upload it to this site I'm sure it will be helpful, it's nothing that anybody couldn't do theirselves but I've already done the work

Make a blank program, call it 'ExtMidi' or something. Make it chromatic.
Put it in your autoload folder. Now just turn to that program anytime you want to do that thing.

Once you do that, its actually better then using 16 levels, in a number of ways. (e.g. you can use all 4 banks if you want to.)

(ps. im not saying i wouldnt like autochromatic and stuff ;) )

I heard that! Just give me the autochromatic!

I wish i could :) i would also like it.

as a part-time programmer, i can also tell u how easy it would be for akai to add this simple feature...

If everytime they fix or add something causes a new problem to surface...my guess is that it can't be all that easy.

Some of you guys ever thought about an Open Source OS for an MPC or similar hardware? So everybody with the skills could program add-on modules from which you could pick the ones you like/need and install them into your box? Now THAT would be dope...

Pity that's probably never gonna happen....

closest thing is probably the soundart chameleon, but its no sampler.
if it had sampling i woud have one by now, for the reason you state.

Nice thing...thanks for the info!

I was looking at the factory supplied sounbank and noticed that the "MBASS" is pretty much a chromatic setup. Delete the Mbass sample and load the one you want on each pad and WHALA chromatic program. Works nice for Bass samples Haven't tried it on anything else yet.
