Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So Im tryng to connect with the SCSI to my other MPC2000 with my jaz system and scsi cable. I haven't used this MPC before and I can't get the new MPC to read the disks -- I get disc read error, however it does recognize the jaz drive (for a moment.) However, these discs work perfectly well on my old mpc2000 (for the time being.)

My question is this: do I need a new scsi device and cable for the new mpc? Im familiar with the click of death and how the iomega devices angle the heads over time. Im thinking that for this reason, the new mpc is unable to read my discs and drive that Ive used for six years. However I've used this drive and discs on some of my friends' MPCs and it works fine. Also, the SCSI fuse on this MPC is a bit rusty, so I think that me be the problem. Should I just spend the dough and get a built in ZIP for this one? I was thinking to do that but then it wont be able to read my old discs, which is important.

Also, anyone have any recommendations for backing up 30gb worth of music saved on jaz discs?

Lots of questions, sorry. Im a bit constipated by all this and wanted to get it out.
