whats your favorite feature of the 2500?

post your favorite features that the 2500 has that the 2000xl doesn't. i'm lookin to buy an mpc and i can't decide between the 2. on one hand, the 2500 has stuff like grid edit and chop shop and advanced filters, which is important to me cuz i'm used to a computer and i want that flexibilty, but i could buy a nice mixer and some fx or a cheap synth with the money i would save by buying a 2000xl instead...

so what really makes the 2500 better in your opinion?

No seriously...now that I have it, I'd say that the workflow and ergonomics has improved over the 2000XL, though that's somewhat of a "soft fact".

I think what influenced me most to buy it however was the CF card slot and harddisk, so you're not forced to always have some external drive attached to it.

Yeah the modern-ness is what i like about it, CD's, CF cards, USB and hard drives instead of ancient zip disks and floppies! It just makes integrating it with my PC a whole lot easier and more efficient. The quadrupled RAM is also good.

I haven't had the time to really use my MPC in-depth yet but it's an awesome bit of kit.

Plus unlike the older models, it's guaranteed to have some even nicer features added to the OS in the future

The 4 MIDI OUTPUTs and the LSB/MSB program/bank selection functions. They are nothing new..but there location and ease of use is great. I just wish there was a way to import patch scripts (like many of us who use software sequencers).

compact flash is better than zip. If you get them mpc2000xl id get the mcd/media card reader.

the harddrive on the mpc2500 is the shit.

Nothin worse than loadin up a zip and your files are gone. Plus the click of death is pretty anoyying.

i will admit that i still love the overall feel of the mpc2xl. But thats probably because i started out on it. Ive also used the mpc4000. I still like the feel of the 2xl.

Which ever one youd get, I think youd be happy. Just try to get the media card reader and 8 outs.

i cant live without the hi pass filter and harddrive.

i love the feel the build (exept the plastic wheel)the looks, that its portable and still not cheap looking - and the fact that u don´t need to add anything (out , fx) exept of ram....
The thing i dislike: I can´t add more than 128mb - wich means i need to reload during a perfomance...)

woah thanks for all the replies, guys... actually i just thought of another question too. can you set loop points on a sample in the mpc 2500? so if you hold down the key it can sustain and then release when you let go. also, are the internal fx any good?
