MPC2Kxl and ASR 10 midi

Hi guys,
this is my first post here, most of my questions have been answered by searching previous posts. There is one thing Ive been having trouble trying to get happnin'. I can sync my MPC as the master midi controller and also use the pads to play and record my ASR sounds. But what I want to do is be able to play my ASR keys and have the MPC sequencer play em back without using the ASR sequencer or the MPC pads. Is this possible? I want to be able to use the MPC Step screen to correct mistakes etc... If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it!!!

i might be able to help. i just got the same setup and i am doing the same thing. basically, from what i know it is the same sounds on the pads and the keys when you got them hooked up midi. as long as you got the mpc set to midi you can just use the keyboard to play ur sounds and then just record into the mpc as if you were just hitting the pads. but you have to make sure that your asr is set to multi midi in mode. then you just gotta set the channels to corresponding tracks when recording ur sounds in the mpc. hope this helps. peace

Ive only been using one midi cable (MPC out to ASR in). Do I need to use 2? ASR out to MPC in aswell? I do my drums on the MPC and I do my bass on the ASR. When i set my MPC to midi track 2, the pads play and sequence my bass but I wanna go straight from the ASR keys into the MPC sequencer. I used to just synch the 2 sequencers but I'd prefer to stay away from the ASR sequencer altogether.

Yes, your gonna need two midi cables. The cable going out of the MPC into the ASR-10 is what triggers the ASR telling it what you just recorded into the MPC sequencer from the pads. In order for you to send information to the sequencer to the MPC from the ASR, you have to have the ASR midi out going to the midi in of the MPC. So when you hit a key or keys on the ASR while recording, the midi messages will be sent to the MPC sequencer. Think of the midi cords as a one way street. The information can only flow one way. If it's coming out of one machine, it needs to go into another in order for it to work.

It may be confusing, but this is the only way I know how to explain it. By the way, I have a similar setup, syncing my ASR-10 to my MpC 60. Still work in progress, so I may have some questions later too.

I can't believe I didn't realize earlier, but I guess just having one midi cable in my possesion doesnt help me. I'll have to go and buy another one a.s.a.p. An MPC and ASR combo is really THE gear! If ya ever need any help with anything just let me know. Ive got a maxed out ASR-10 keyboard, everything except the DI-10 digital board that is. My MPC is maxed out with the 8-outs and EB16 effects 32meg ram etc... I record into a computer and mix it all there. Can't wait to get an Andromeda!!
