I just got a second hand MPC 2000xl the other day off of craigslist. I quickly went home and made a beat only to find out that the machine wont save anything. Floppy or Zip, It simply would`nt save anything. I upgraded the OS from 1.06 to 1.20 with no luck. Any ideas what my problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well, what happens when you try to save? Does the machine do anything? Where are you trying to save it?

Thanks you for your interest. MIC PRO. But when I try to save by pressing f6 nothing happens. I first tried to use a zip drive to save with no luck. The light on the zip drive lights for about a second and nothing happens. I than upgraded the OS thinking this would fix it, but no luck. I than tried the Floppy drive , same thing. I am able to load from a zip disk or floppy but it just wont save. I have owned quite a few mpcs in my time and this is the first time I ever came across this problem.

PS. I presently own 2 MPC 60( one fully blownout and one stock) and a MPC 3000. I am definately not new to the mpc enviroment witch is why this problem really bugs me.

os 1.20 is ONLY for those with card readers. you need to find a way to get back down to 1.14

Thanks for your input Birdbrain, I actually upgraded the machine first with 1.14, and then tried it with no luck and than I took it to 1.20. The results were the same. I get the feeling the SCSI is damaged and might be the cause.

Is the Zip external and it has the internal floppy? Does the Zip light light up when you try to save, and then just goes out?

BTW, OS 1.20 works fine with zips, floppies, jaz, whatever. I used it to salvage my MPC formatted Zips, then re-installed 1.14

i've heard from many sources that it can make your floppy or zip unusable until you find a way to get back down to 1.14
