your card reader in the mpc could be defective. i've had this happen before and it's happened to some other people as well. did that card work on your mpc before this problem occured? also, do you have another card that you can try out?

You can also try and initialize to factory preset by holding the ERASE key while turning on the mpc, then release the ERASE key after the display shows.

I didn't have any luck when I initialized my mpc, but as a last resort, give it a try. If your mpc still freezes up when inserting the card, then your card reader is defective. If you're covered under warranty, Akai or your local authorized Akai repair center will either replace the defective card reader (if they have them in stock) or replace your mpc with another unit, which may be a "b-stock", depending who you're dealing with.

was the USB cable connected to your mpc and your computer before inserting the flash card? if so, that may be the cause of your problem. Also, shine a flashlight inside your card reader to see if any of the pins are bent.

i cant remember if the cable was connected first, but it's very probable....anything to do about?
i took a look to the card reader and everything seems ok.

make sure that the USB cable is disconnected. then power up the mpc without the card. after that, insert the card and let me know if the unit still freezes up. if so, i'm 99.9% sure that the card reader is defective.

as for the warranty... did you buy your mpc new or used?
if it's used, i doubt the warranty is valid. if it's new and less than 30 days old, just contact your akai dealer in the uk and return it (if they have a 30 day return policy) and have it exchanged for a new replacement.

Rob Ray is either as blind as a bat, or just full of sh!t...
most likely both, from what I've encountered.

got it at turnkey cause i saved 200 euros..........but will be loosing time...
i kept trying with the memory and i found i can press any button problemless, but when i try with MODE--LOAD........that's all.
i've already sent an email to this people in uk (the policies say that they will give me a new one, let's see..), and also to akai support to see what they say......
much thanx for your interest.

no problem.
your best bet would be to make arrangements with turnkey and have them exchange it for a new unit. make sure they won't charge you for shipping, since you'll have to pay to ship it back, and they shipped you a defective unit to begin with.
good luck.

ok, so i kept trying....i tried with another unit (in a store) and also wouldn't work, so i thought maybe it wasn't the card slot.
then i formated the memory card on a palm......then load it in the mpc 1k and IT'S WORKING¡¡¡¡
so finally, don't know what was that freeze shit.......but happy for not having to send my unit back to uk.
thanx for help.
