Advice please on 4k upgrade.

I wondered if somebody could advice me on upgrading my 4k.

I have my USB laptop (XP) and lead but wondered is somebody could briefly talk me through the OS update process? (I would liketo upgrade to 1.45)

Memory

Before I unscrew the thousand and one screws only to find the buttons eject themselves from the front of the unit Which set of screws are the correct ones to undo for me to gain access to the memory and area..

Sorry for the fundemental questions here but I wish for this to goas smoothly as possible without falling at the first hurdle.

Hi!

Get the hardware installation manual from Akai's website, for a start:

It's the one called "MPC4000Inst_E.zip".

Basically, it's just the screws on the side and front of the MPC (four screws on each side holding the plastic side-panels, and 6 or 8 screws on each side under the side-panels, can't remember), and one easy to miss small screw underneath the front of the MPC (check the PDF-file above). Carefully lift the front end of the MPC - it opens pretty much like the hood of a car - and make sure you don't accidently unplug the cable going from the screen to the motherboard (or any other cables, for that matter). Use one of the side-panels to keep the "lid" open (or something similar).

Once more, it's all explained pretty good in the PDF-file. Good luck!

I've said it once, I'll say it again

Use a GOOD screw driver - Akai made the screws out of jelly and they thread instantly if you don't use a good screw driver!

Does anyone know of certain tests I could perform around the 4000's parameters to see if the 1.45 os and memory are ok?

I would just like to do these tests as I have not had the unit long and wish to see if it has any hardware problems.

Anyone out there with the experience with this matter?

No worries I have gone right though the parameters and latency seems fine (loaded my full 256mb). Sequencer seems solid.
