even if you dont have cash try this: make friends with the cats at your local used record shop. lots of times they will have records that for one reason or another they cant sell (they might be scratched, too obscure, whatever) and they will be happy to just give them to you for free...

just last week i got a record called "sounds of lincoln high" this way. its this "audio yearbook" recorded in the sixties for a local high school and pressed on record for the students. this is the kind of thing that i would never have bought, but now that i own it, its priceless

heres another one: walk around your neighborhood and talk to the locals. lots of people have record collections sitting in thier basements that are just gathering dust, and, if youre cool about it, they might just give them to you (for free) or chatge you only, say twenty bucks, for the entire collection...

point is, lack of funds shouldnt ever stop you from coping new rekids

i copped prelude deodato on cti yesterday allready used some flutes and a break to flip a beat. found an album with maybe 30 different percussion instruments on the cover. no brainer had to get that. also picked up another return to forever this one is musicmagic. pretty ill. come on yall lets hear some more!

That is very very very true....my boss gave me three boxes of records(mostly old kiss albums, Rolling stones, and alot of early eighties metal and pop) and a small box of 454's----for free!.....his house caught on fire and he didtn eanna hafta tote what was left of his collection to his new crib...ohhhh, the guilt!

I mean, can these reissued vynils be used for sampling ?

the result is all that counts, nobody wants to hear that you made that shitty bassline yourself...whatever...bring some heat and then we can talk.

thats what ive always maintained- the people this is for (the listeners) care not where the sample came from, whether it was off a first or reissue, how originaly its been used - as longs as the listeners enjoys what they hear it doesn't matter how you get there.....

may be right, dude; but the ones that care are the record companies....
so I prefer making my own basslines and melodies (of course I also use whole samples sometimes) than taking a perfect loop and just add drums and bass...
so I don't have to care if someone wants me to pay for using a sample.

djrespect- i agree i like using samples but prefer to make my own....

its just i don't think there should be any rules in composition and that songs aren't just for selling- its the reason some bootlegs and white labels exist- the song is good but is illegal...doesn't mean people shouldn't hear it, and as long as the artist doesn't make profit from using an illegal sample it shouldn't be a problem.....

so if your not selling it and is for a limited audience (like most white labels) it shouldn't be a problem...if your composing purley to make money then you have to take the sampling issue into consideration....

to me its all just music...the most popular song i wrote contains an illegal spoken word sample...im not selling it so therefore it doesn't matter- people still enjoy it...

Cos the greater the sound of your vynil, the better it is for sampling...

personally i like the gritty sound of pops and clicks that old 25 cent flea market vinyl gives

it wasn't explained too well......but hey thats the nature of emails....

i guess the answer isn't simple or clear cut- all depends on whether the reissue was pressed by the same company as the original wit the same master, presses and materials......more often then not thye aren't so will sound different- how different is probably something for the audio-philes....

i think when dj shadow exclaims about his beats being sampled from the originals it is a nod to the fetishisation of finding the rare first print rather than any audio imprint the original pressing has....he is a digger after all...
