yeah it's obvious in the heatmakerz video that he had already previously made the beat and he was reconstructing it making it look like he was doing it on the spot. he cameup with the drums and the bassline just like that. i mean that happens sometimes but don't you think if you were gonna get taped doing a beat you'd be prepared.

it doesn't matter how long it takes to make a beat. i notice that maybe kuz i have a.d.d. or sumthin' i can't finish a beat once at a time. i work on like 3 or more beats at a time going back and forth. it's like as i'm looking for samples to add to the beat i'm working on, i find sicker samples for a completely diff type of beat or watever and start working on that on the side. i know this happens to everyone. i also like to listen to them at a later time and i hear them differently. it's okay to take your time on 'em but as you get better you move faster and start to understand the music and where it's going.

however, i must say my best beats i banged out unconciously in 15 minutes or so. that doesn't count eqing mixing and all that i mean just chopping and arranging the loop.

I don't know about y'all but I try not to guess when making beats, I go with what feels right. This process can take up from a few hours to a few days, at least for me. I stick with a beat until i'm done. Sure, i'll take a break from it and come back but I always stick with it t'ill i'm done. I'm more of a cat that produces with own compositions, but I can say from my end, I rarely finish off a week with more than 3 beats. It may appear to be slow movin but man anyone can throw somethin together in a 30 minute period...if you're layin lyrics with it, then you can add more time on top of it all. It dont take long for a week to go by and feel as though things aint moving as fast as you like but I tend to throw out the clock as hard as it is 'cause rushin sh$t dont work for me.

for me, usually the best ones are the easiest and fastest to make. i guess if you are feelin it, you know what to do automatically............. not to say spending time is a bad thing.

I guess, the more experience and time youve already put into beat making, The faster it is. If your drum library is at its peak, and you got your bass sounds in lock, then all you gotta do is find that sample..............then its fast.

If you are choppin breaks, and choppin samples from all over, then it takes time.

Sometimes the hot ones only take 10 minutes, but thats after an hour of messing with some bad ones.

again, just got to say it because it's really important. hip hop beats are comparatively simple. instrumental hip hop songs are not.
