Need help with 16 levels

Hello guys,

Well here goes...
ive got a triton extreme an mpc 1000 and mpc 2000xl and a dm24 mixer and pro tools 002r the latter i have not connected up yet.

Well i am trying to use the mpc 1000 and the triton extreme as sound modules. Ie loading samples into the 1000 because it seems a lot faster and as i edit my samples on the laptop its a lot easier to get the samples into the mpc1000. plus its got a higher memory capacity. (why did akai make the 2000xl so week in this regard) but any way i have connected the triton midi in to midi a out of the mpc 2000 and ive connected the midi in of the 1000 to the midi b out of the 2000xl.

I am able to trigger the sounds of the keyboard by pressing the pads on the 2000xl. I can also trigger the sounds loaded up on the pads of the 1000 as expected.

The issue that i have is that i want to be able to use the 16 levels feature for pitch changes on the 2000xl.

I have selected 16 levels as normal and select the sound that i want as 16 levels wich is the sound that i have assigned to pad 1 on the mpc1000.

when i hit the pads, all i get is the sound in the original pitch regardless of what pad i hit.

I have also tried to activate the 16 levels feature on the 1000 and confirmed that when i press the different pads on the 1000, i get the different sounds but using the pads of the 2000 i still get the same single original sample pitch.

Is there a way that i can activate 16 levels on the 2000 xl or 1000 and then create the sequence that i want on the 2000 with the pitch changes or will i need to assign the sample to each of the pads of the 1000 and manually change the note of each one manually?

Set your KORG to use pad velocity as a modulator for the pitch on your KORG. I assume for the money, the KORG should be able to handle this with no problems. Pitch changes are not sent midi, that is why it wont translate. Velocity is. You should be able to use velocity to modulate the pitch or any other parameter such as pan or what ever.

There was another post abotu someone wanting to use the NV fader to control his Trtion LE. You might check this out as well. It was posted recently.

I dont have a problem with the keyboard though that all works as expected and hitting the different pads of the 2000xl triggers the different notes of the keyboard. the main problem for me is that even when i assign 16 levels to the 1000 i still can only get one note to play no matter what pad i hit.

I would have thought that the data that is transmitted would be if i hit pad 3 of the 2000 it would trigger pad 3 of the 1000, pad 8 of the 2000 would trigger pad 8 of the 1000 etc.

does anyone habe a technical idea of how the 16 level assignmet works ie, whether it puts the sample on all 16 pads with different pitch variations?

is what i want it to do not possible. its nut a huge problem but i just want to keep all the midi data in just one device. and use the other two devices as sound modules really. i have got it hooked up that when i play the keyboard it records the notes that i play so that is recording my actions as it should. as i right this i have just had a thought. could it be as simple as me connecting the midi out of the 1000 to the midi in of the 2000xl and then assigning 16 levels on the 1000 and then recording a sequence on the 2000 playing the pads of the 1000. could that then record the different notes. hmmm gonna give tha a try in a minute although ideally i want to mainly just use the 2000 for everything as thye pads are more sweet on the 2000.

off topic, i think the mpc 2500 is like a combination of the 1000 and 2000xl but cant touch the 4000. love the portability of the of the 1000.
