I just spoke to a worker at akai in the netherlands, and he said:

"i'm sorry but the "black kit" u are talking about is not and will never be available at akai, i never even heard of it".

So i mailed a link to vst and showed him it WAS available, and that many people on this forum like to have one. He replied with:

"i understand why u think it's available at akai, but the truth is that ur looking at socalled "pimping" online stores. The've been offering these sort of things for mpc's from the beginning. But Akai does NOT sell them. U can ofcourse always order from them, i like the black one more to. The sidepanels are available though and u CAN order them."

With other words Akai in the Netherlands don't even know what is sold or made for the products THEY design and sell?????!!!!! I think that's hard to believe because I think whoever designed the black kit must've had some help in some way from Akai to make it. I assume it's copywrite protected isn't it?

But yes it's available so it's no bullshit, but Akai won't sell it!

Strange company.......

there are only 2 official AKAI offices and they are in the USA and Japan. all other regions and locations are pretty much authorized dealers and/or akai distributors. so maybe the one in the netherlands really don't know what's what because it didn't make it's way to them yet.

but believe me when i say.... there will be a kit made available for purchase.

There's also AkaiPro Europe in the UK: http://www.akaipro.com/contact.php
Even when Akai US officially releases the kit i wouldn't be surprised if many European distributors aren't gonna have it.
Most of the cosmetic and replacement parts you see on VST are simply not available here. Only the populair things like HD mount and stuff.

When I ordered the q link slider board Nick (from VST) told me they have new mpcs for spare parts as in my case. Maybe they sell the kits from new black mpcs. All I know is that I'm buying mine from VST, I am currently on the waiting list.

I just checked my email from VST...

"For 20 years we at VST have been servicing Akai products and have been servicing, repairing, and upgrading MPC's and the entire Akai product line as the Akai National Service Center. We carry more parts and accessories and know more about Akai products than Akai does!"

that's cool but i don't see the logic behind the statement that they carry more akai products than akai, when if akai doesn't ship them, VST can't get them.
akai was shipping the HDM10 before VST.

but hey, who am i???
