@funky74 - just stay away from the mo phatt, especially if your liking shadow nad RJ2D, Motif rack is by Yamaha. And can be the only synth box you need along with your MPC and vinyl, plus its easy to use, I find the EMU racks a **** to use.

PS: I really hate to sound like I'm trying to make money (cause Im not), but if you want some of the best sounds form the MoPhatt I got a sample disk with MoPhatt, Roland XV5080, and korg MS2000 patches in .WAV for $10.

Yea its a love/hate relationship between me and my MP-7. The sounds are good, but could the manual/ease of use be anymore difficult/confusing????

Ive never tried one of those EMU command stations but just owning a proteus model rack turned me off. I got the Motif running perfectly (all 15 midi channels running from the MPC) in like an hour. It took me weeks to do this on the EMU. I like Roland JVs better function wise.

Hmmm, interesting! "All 15 midi channels..."? wheres the 16th? I take it thats a typo.

As for you struggling with settin up the multi mode on the proteus, that must be a personal thing. Its quite str8 4ward I thought. I didnt clock a time but it was easy. Ive heard the Multi Mix Or Multi Mode or even both are confusing on the motif (rack)

I've been slightly interested by the hype around them tho (I confess). Need to hear em for myself tho. For me the drums have to be really good, and the pads and bass would also be on the shopping list. The rest (bread & butter sounds) I can account for in other modules.

Well, perhaps you can tell me what you like about it from a personal/user p'spective

um, yeah.

anyhow, the Motif is tight. Based on the presets alone. its got my seal of approval.

Hmmmm, I guess thats a step in the right direction....Anything in particular that seals it for you? Drums perhaps? or maybe it has nice pads and basses??

I was off and running the very first day I got mines but then again I started off with the Planet Phatt . Again I started off fast cause once I knew how to midi up my PSR 540 everything else came to me easy. As for earlier comments about the MO Phatt any piece of equipment that isn't accoustic is a sample. Triton and Motiff included. I still use my Planet Phatt heavy to this day. Now if I was to sample from it into my MPC I could come up with even more sounds same as with my Mo Phatt or I could tweak those on board . The point is with any piece of equipment your creativity determins both yours and your equipments limits. I know people that have never used either one strictly MPC and vinyl and their tracks come out bangin everytime! ! So the next time you're out at Guitar Center play with the floor demos and decide if you like it. Just because someone else likes or dislikes a certain piece of equipment doesn't mean you will share their reasoning. I wonder how many people made jokes about the Neptunes and Casio keyboards.

i havent got into the depths of programming sounds, sequencing and saving my patches (I dont think I will either), but as far as working alongside an MPC, its a dream machine, all you do is hit mix>voice, you get a little mixing screen, with 16 (no typo=) sliders, effects send, and filter options (per channel) and you ready to go.

in the sound department the wurlys, vintage pianos, tand the strings are dope, some fat basses to, its well suited for mellow music and what not (not a Lil Jon board - thats the Triton over there). I'm not to keen on the drums I would have to sample em to the MPC to give em that flavor.

I've owned the Motif, Motif ES and used the Mo rack a few times. I've heard people say that the drums are really good but I couldn't really get into them, they sounded kind of corny to me, there were some cool ones but I guess it depends on what you like. If you've heard the new Alicia Keys cd I'm pretty sure track 2 has some Mo drums on it, definitely the snare. As for the rest of the sounds, bangin'. The best thing about the Mo series to me is how deep the editing goes, you'd be hard pressed to find a sound you couldn't emulate with these boards.

I use a Proteus2000 w/ the Phatt Card installed. I had no problems getting it up and running on either of my boards that i've used. I had it hooked up to a Ensoniq-vfx before the board died. I now use it in conjunction with the triton and the mpc-2000. The motif has alot of nice a** sounds in it. I played with one @ GC. I like to use sounds from alot of different modules. My next modules will be the motif & the roland-5080.

For 300 that's a bargian. I have listened to it now and i must say it sounds a bit dull if used only for presets. But it can be programmed pretty deep so if i find one for that price ima cop it.

I use an Extreme Lead which is pretty similar - i run that through my compressor and it sounds off the hook - turn the preset effects off and apply your own - it's dope

If you just play it out the box it sounds weak

i dont have a keyboard yet im savin up for a triton so ive been samplein of records.ive a got generic casio keyboar but i dont use it cause the sounds are GAY.so ive been thinkin bout coppin a mo phatt but i wanna get this clear a mo phat is a sound module meaning it has sounds in it right?so can i use my casio as a controller to trigger the sounds in mo phatt than run to the mpc?is mo phatt a sequencer?can u make beats on in?can sum one clear this out for me?
