pro tool effects

for you people that use pro tools out there i just got a question even tho i kno it varies for your type of style. Is it good to compress the whole track after your done with the whole track session or only certain parts.

If you're sending it off to be mastered, don't put anything on it. If it's for your own purposes, or a demo, then you might put something on there, but only if it needs it. A cool thing to just pump up the signal is something like the Oxford Inflator. Some will also use the Waves limiter. And maybe a little EQ after that. Also, put the dither last on the master fader, after the other plug-ins.

There aren't many, but you can start with the Pluggo Jr, or whatever it's called. I think the site is Cycling74.com. There's also the Bomb Factory plugs available at Digi's site (the BF76 is a "classic" emulation of a classic compressor). Hmm...can't think of too many more right now. Oh, one of my favorites: Izotope Vinyl.

Best bet is to get FXpansion's VST to RTAS wrapper so you can make use of the gazillion or so free (and not free) VSTs.
