recording mute tracks

ive tried the search but with no help

is there anyway to record track mutes into the sequencer, if not has anyone come up with some work arounds

program out the parts you don't want to play.

in the sense that you want recordable track mutes, the 1000 can not do it. the 2500 can. other than that, on the 1000 you would have to do program in your mutes.

when a track is muted does it also stop sending it's midi data

not sure if this will help you out but if you want to erase individual hits or samples from a seq you've made you can as long as you have your sounds on different tracks. select the track that contains the sounds you want to remove, press overdub+record and hit the pad/sound you want to remove at the point in the seq where you want it removed. not sure if this helps or not because the 1k is my only machine so i'm not sure how this compares to track mute. peace.

yes, it stops sending its midi data on that track when you mute.

not exactly an easy solution, but you could always run through another sequencer that can save its data as a SMF to put back into the MPC. not sure of the best/cheapest way to do this, i used to do it with my Atari Falcon running Cubase. tight midi sync is a must, not sure how well it'd work with a PC sequencer and interface. not sure what the cheapest hardware sequencer would be that could save SMFs and have a floppy drive to export the files easily. maybe an RM1x or MC-80, but those aren't too cheap. i think a midi data filer (like those made by yamaha and alesis) can record midi files, but i don't know too much about them.

here's something i never thought about until now - not sure what other gear you have hooked to the 1000, but what if you ran a midi line back into the MPC and recorded it on an open track? haven't tried it, not sure how it'd work. i know that the track would have to be muted so that it's not being re-output creating a midi feedback loop. if you have other gear, you could go from the midi thru back to the MPC. it should record the output from itself onto one channel. not a great solution, but it might work.
