MIDI-yes, I've searched around first...

Here's my scenerio:
I have a MicroKorg, and a MPC2000XL with a MFC-42 hooked up to it.. I have MIDI out B (MPC) going to MIDI in (MicroKorg). I also have the "headphone" out (MFC-42) going into the Audio in 2 (Microkorg) so that I can hear the sound. My headphones, are plugged into the "headphone out" of the MicroKorg so that I can hear ALL sound coming from my units. I believe that I have all the audio AND MIDI settings correct on the MicroKorg becuase I can play the Korg sounds and MPC drums/samples at the same time...

This is my problem:
In order to get the MicroKorg sounds to record on the MPC track, I need to use the drum pads on the MPC. I do not want to use the drum pads. If I try to record the MicroKorg sequence by using the keys instead, I do not get ANY sound at all recorded onto the MPC track.
Can someone explain to me what I need to do to be able to record a track onto the MPC by performing on the MicroKorg's keys? Or is that even possible?
I've looked all over for the past 4 hours and can't find any clear info on this matter. I believe that it may be due to incorrect MIDI settings on the MPC. Also, does anyone know how to get the MicroKorg "notes" into correct order (correct note octaves) on the drum pads? Right now they are all phuckered up and it's wierd.

You need an extra midi cable to connect midi out of the micro korg into one of the midi ins on the MPC. Make sure you have turned midi local off on the micro korg.

Ok, so now I understand MIDI a bit more. But there is still a problem. Let's say I want to record to MicroKorg sequences onto the MPC tracks 1 and 2. Then, let's say I want to lower the volume of track 1 and raise the volume of track 2. How would i do that? I have already tried going into the MPC "Mixer" menu but it only allows me to adjust the volume of certain tracks/sounds inside of the sampler, NOT the MicroKorg. I understand that the Korg has a mixer in it as well, but it controls the velocity of the WHOLE program. What I am trying to do is basically raise the bass end and lower the high end of the MicroKorg. Low is on one track and high is one the other track.
Do I need an actual mixer to do this?

On the MPC's main screen there is a setting for track volume.



See where it says Velo%:100

That's your individual track volume.

Well dude, I've tried that and it doesn't work. I don't know why. I'm thinking because the MPC cannot control the actual volume of the MicroKorg. The only way I have figured out how to turn the Korg down is to manually do it....but then the entire Korg is lowered....which is not what i want.
Anyone know what is wrong with my setup?

check your korgs manual to see what midi cc you hae to send to control the volume of a certain instrument.

Must be something fancy about the MicroKorg that a sh!tty MIDI controller don't have, 'cause with mine if you go into step edit and you lower the volume/velocity of a note played on the keyboard the keyboard plays lower. Since the track velocity does the same thing, it also lowers the volume of my MIDI keyboard. But like I said, I have a sh!tty @ss casio that I just use as a controller for samples, so your Korg must be different. Sorry I couldn't help.

Yep! I checked...thnx, I just didn't know where to look. I also found a TON of things that I could do in stereo too!

Learning the basics of this MIDI stuff is CraZy man!

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I can't figure out why the velocity changes I make on the MPC don't affect the sound coming out the Microkorg in any way. I.e. I could have the velocity on the MPC track set to 1 or 127 and the Microkorg still plays everything at the same volume. Any ideas??

Well on my midi keyboard it has its own separate mixer page where u can lower each individual note. Or like was suggested earlier in this thread u can go under step edit screen, find what notes were played and manually lower them. But like I said I dont own the Microkorg but most midi keyboards are similar.

check for a setting called "vel lock" or velocity lock. I am not sure 100% if you will find it .... or it might also be called "full level".

this setting keeps the velocity at max no matter how hard the key or pad is pushed. Maybe that will help.

(check on both the mpc and the korg)

That wouldn't help though if your trying to change the volumes on certain sounds though because everything would be the same volume. Good suggestion though

Like I said, that's my problem: Manually increasing/decreasing the values doesn't seem to do a thing.

mr_debauch: Good suggestion indeed, however, I didn't find that function. There's a "Velocity curve" setting on the Microkorg (which would seem to serve a similar function), but it didn't help with my problem..
