Syncing to tape

The SYNC LEVEL IN knob on the back of my MPC 60II is completly gone, I dont know where it is, but it was probly broken off at some point in it's life, which sucks because it CAN generate SMPTE code to the tape machine im recording to, but after that's done, the machine wont play back in sync to the tape track with the SMPTE code on it because *I think* I need that SYNC LEVEL IN knob to be turned up, which isn't possible cause it's missing.

My question is... if I use a MIDI-Tape synchronizer to generate midi time code to my tascam 4-track, will that sync as well as SMPTE?

Why don't you run the smpte out into a mixer input and boost the level before going to tape?

fader-pro, I can generate SMPTE to the tape fine... The problem is the mpc is not picking up the SMPTE signal back up from the tape, which is where the SYNC LEVEL IN knob on the back would come into play I think.

I'm tracking to a tascam 424 mkIII, so the SMPTE output is allready going through a mixer before hitting the tape. Thats why Im thinkin to get a midi-tape synchronizer, to try and sync through midi... since my SYNC LEVEL IN knob is gone and shit's not workin out. I wanted to know if MTC (midi time code) it is as good as SMPTE.

MTC works just fine but the same logic applies if you want to use SMPTE...Run your SMPTE thru a mixer and boost the level going into your MPC...

tried it again, this time I uped the levels goin out to the MPC, still not picking up the smpte sync code. i'll try MTC with a midi-tape sync box
