I wouldn't spend extra on 5400 or 7200 drives if they caused more heat and noise and didn't give any real benefit other than spec bragging.
I am waiting on my hdm10. I salvaged a 40gig 4200 fujitsu out of a dead laptop and I am hoping that will be fine.
If my machine was noisy with hum from it, I would go shopping for the quietest drive I could find.
yeah i think you hit the nail on the head, a lot of people think that if you get a slow drive, it's going to affect their workflow vastly, but as the hard drive is only accessed during saving/loading, then their workflow should remain intact, unless you save every minute, in which case you're a dweeb.
ps i think the samsung spinpoint drive are among the quietest drive around, though someone else may know different.
