The Card Reader Myth (pcd-15b,Forat, Argh!/help!)

1. I sincerely apologize for this being my first post; I have been using the 3000 since it hit the shelves and have made numerous albums using only the 3K, i wouldn't use any other machine. I understand that the forum is a give and take and will do my best to contribute all of the knowledge and tips i have learned over the years.

After going through click of death hell and losing alot, I decided to make the jump to putting an internal CF in my 3000. Yes I read the card reader faq, and though I tried to email the man himself, his response was, shall we say, curt (use the internet). OK, so first I bought a PCD-40. It does NOT WORK with the MPC-3000, any Os. It will not format a flash card and that is as far as I got. I then contacted Adtech directly and confirmed that the SDDS-03 would work (because it does not use LUN configuration to address out the two seperate drives). Forat and I attempted to install it and , though it formatted fine, it would not save sounds...it would write the file name in the partition and 1k of information, but when attempting to load the sound it give a "disk corrupt" error. I figured, at that time, that maybe I was going out on a limb with the adtech and should stick with "approved" devices. So I tracked down a minty intermart PCD-15b. We spent the whole day working on it but we are still having the same problem. 1k saves, but anything bigger will not save/load. If we put data on the flash card it laods fine but within the system, nothing. We tried it with 5 different MPCs and two different OS versions as well as terminated, not terminated, diferent adresses, etc. We tried everything...no dice. BTW, both drives work with the 2000. So now I am at an impass: Mr. Forat says he'll believe its possible when he sees it and I am trying to stay positive but damn; either The PCD-15B DOES NOT WORK WITH THE MPC3000 or there is something we are doing wrong here...

Suggestions, advice, help, consolation. something or anything. Anyone had this problem before or ahve a fix? Is a card reader in the 3000 the lochness monster? Am i using the wrong adapter or card? WTF!

Well. I have an external one for my 60. I didn't pay too much attention to types and brands. Works perfect. Guess I just got lucky.

My suggestion is get an external one instead of internal. I find it to be better incase it stops working or something you might still need that disk drive.

Let us know how it goes..I am the process of trying to put a card reader in my mpc3000..was looking to have forat do it, if possible!

err.. i wanted to go internal, but went external instead. adtron sdds. got lucky on ebay.

Yeha. me and MR. Forat are truly stumped and everyone seems to act like you just buy one, drop it in and its good to go. Haven't tried an external yet...Someone with a truly working internal card reader please speak up.

I doing some searching, It seems like with all the pics I have seen of this mod, The sdds03 is the one that seems to be the one that people are putting in?? It seems that the Microtech ones have alot of confusion.. Some seem to work, some dont?

I would think that it would work, other wise there would be no pics of the mod, especailly on MPC3000.com..The other thing with MPC3000.com, is did he even mention what Card Reader(model) was installed in his pics?

By the way, how much did the sdds03 cost, and where to purchase at, if still available?

It's a Microtech one. There's no model number on it so I don't know that. I got it on Ebay a few months ago for about $30.

The SDDS 03 is having the same problem as the PCD-15B, 1k of writing and it fails. Therefor, the SDDS03, at least by just throwing it in, in the same way, you would a zip, does NOT WORK. They are still commercially available at WDW and a few other distributors but if they don't work, why you want it? Mine cost 270$ brand new in the box. I thought that buying a brand new one from the factory would help...no.

Will someone who actually HAS ONE WORKING IN THIER MPC post the make model number and MPC OS they run or at least any install tips.

Or else its starting to look more and more like this is a big lie. seriously

I was on soulstrut.com a couple weeks ago, and I remeber seeing some post over there on the MPC. Well, one of the members over there had put a Microtech PCD-15B in his MPC3000. I been looking for the post/pics and I think I found it(minus pics )

The members name is Quo, maybe try to see what he did to get his working. It seems from reading the post that Quo did get it working!
