hi buddys.....i know there were so many hints but i am getting ill . !!!

the only thing i want is to transfer samples via a (ide) zip inside my pc
to a sec. "external." scsi zip and finaly into the 3000 !!!

i´ve got the mpc editor running on the xp.system (service pack 1) .

i formated the zip with its special XP FORMAT funktion and exported my files direct on it.

(the zip´s got after formatting only 29.7mb space...[think this is ok as the manual of the editor says....]

after all i remove the zip and put it inside my external zip ,,,,,,AND !!!!!!

nothing ;(

my 3K can´t see the files on disk !! ok the mpc is able to recognize the zip but shows "NO FILES"

i am wondering because with the "select disk" funktion i am able to see all 4 partitions showing 32xxxmb each . ? wasn´t there only one before ???

where i have to format the "sample transfer plattform disk" before ??? inside the mpc or with the windows formatter ?? and after thAt inside the editor with its xp format funktion ???

got inside the 3.10 OS and also 3.16 OS on disk

please help me dudes....i am getting ill after a whole day,,,,,,

This procedure is the ONLY way ive ever gotten things to work.

1.Format ZIP disk on MPC 3000. (including creating the partitions)
2.MPC EDITOR : Format the zip disk with MPC 3000 OPTION. When prompted to EJECT ZIP YOU MUST EJECT THE ZIP DISK.
3.When you place the zip back in the ZIP DRIVE thats connected to your MPC it should contain two files. (believe there credit.to and mans**.to) Cant remember the names off hand.
4.You should then be able to use MPC EDITOR to CREATE your programs.
5. Once this is done export using the MPC3000 option to your zip drive.
6.Even though the LED light on the zip is not green does not mean its finished processing. I would say give it a good minute or else you will get prompted that file transfer did not complete. This can sometimes corrupt it and you will need to repeat the format process.

Also you probably know this but just incase. You are using .SND FILES correct?

thank you tal for your advices....and i think i am a little bit closer to it

you wrote....after the xp/3000 format, i have to see the two files with the mpc...but the 3000 shows....NO FILES on zip

shure the pc can read/show them.

any idea ?

and yes after export...there are ".snd" files and a .pgm + these two extra files on disk, but only readable with the pc as i wrote.

is it normal that the editor need only a second to format the disk ?
and is it correct that for the mpc a zip-disk is like a hd or do i have to treat it like a floppy disk ? mhm .

the format of the zip on mpc editor is really quick. Im using standard PC IOMEGA ZIP disks 100 meg. As far as I know the zip is unreadable by the PC. only by the mpc.

ok ok tal .....anther step forward for me.....

if you tell me the zip is (as you know) unreadable by the pc
(shure it comes with the 3k format) tells me that you are maybe working with an older mpc editor...because i can see them

can you "please" tell me what you mean with :

"format the zip with the mpc 3000 option"

because i am running the editor version 3.00.38 and this one comes with an
"mpc xp disk formatter"

are we talking about the same ?

oce again....after exporting data to zip.....with the editor...you can´t see what´s inside the disk ? is this correct ?

hey dude....i am so thankfull, because i have lost tons of hairs in the past hours

thanx again

Ok ... first, revise this post:

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=22087 ... all of it.

partyboy wrote:i´ve got the mpc editor running on the xp.system (service pack 1) .

Once you have exported your files to disk you should use the EJECT DISK function in windows so as to clear or complete the delayed writing process that happens on removable media devices.

If you don't then the files may not be saved on the disk correctly.

29.7 MEG of PARTITION is correct and represents the safe/top size per partition for file transfer between a PC<>MAC<>MPC3000.

In this case a single MPC60 and MPC3000 compatible partition for safe computer to MPC disk transfer.

Re-scan SCSI bus in your MPC3000.

Goto the MAKE ACTIVE menu and tell it to search for a drive with the ZIP cart removed.

The MPC3000 will fail the drive select process and clear it's partition cache.

Now insert the ZIP cart and try making the disk active again.

If the disk is correctly formatted by the MPCEDITOR then only one A partition will be available.

This kind of behaviour with the MPC3000 partition caching happens more in older operating systems that are in ROM with versions pre 3.11.

Particularly where carts get swapped at the wrong time.

Format the ZIP cart in your MPC3000 via the <SLOW> ( hardware low level format method ) present in OS 3.16 and eject it once the system asks you how many PARTITIONS you wish to create.

IE: Do not let the MPC3000 create the partitions.

Get the MPCEDITOR to try formatting this ZIP cart now after the above process before performing any file exports to it.

partyboy wrote:got inside the 3.10 OS and also 3.16 OS on disk

You have 3.10 in ROM and it boots 3.16 from a floppy disk ???

Could be a problem.

Not a lot of 3.10 machines can boot 3.16 correctly. ( different start up code in each and other complex issues beyond the scope of a simple reply ).

I downloaded and purchased my mpc editor. should be no problem on that end. If you follow the steps correctly you should not have a problem.

thank you rohan that you get in touch with my probs

great link...thanx... shows me that the old-golden-machines will take more time and patience

ok...i did the LOW LEVEL format with os 3.16 .......ejected without any partition process inside my mpc....then formated with the mpc.editor inside the pc.

-after prompting.."Drive Formated.Eject Disk" ejected and reinserted.
...the pc shows these two dummy files . then.... craeating a little program and finaly using the export funktion direct to zip.

WAITING.SMOKING.....this time 5 minutes =)

explorer shows these converted .wav files as .snd + the .pgm shown as a "AKSYS" Akai Program File inside the zip disk

ejected with WINDOWS !! not with the hardware knob....... no prompting.
.
here it comes:

back in my mpc i tell her =) to search for a scsi drive with the ZIP cart removed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
no scsi device was found.make sure the scsi devise is connected. power is on and auto or the correct scsi address is entered in the scsi status screen
[error code: FF48:302/3A/00]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...with zip inserted

and again search for disks

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
no scsi device was found.make sure the scsi devise is connected. power is on and auto or the correct scsi address is entered in the scsi status screen
[error code: FF48:306/29/00]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mhm..with this in my mind.....the mpc can´t read/find the zip ...other words it can not make the zip active...mhm maybe the disk is NOT correctly formatted by the MPCEDITOR !?!?! grmmpf

crazy

remember it try all this with os 3.16 and after power off/on the mpc, once again a scsi search with os 3.10 it will show the following

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
no scsi device was found.make sure the scsi devise is connected. power is on and auto or the correct scsi address is entered in the scsi status screen
[error code: FF48]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
think the same

hope you have an advice for this............ =)

-...do you think its better to run 3.11 or 3.12 ??

rohan ...i have an ol´school syquest 44/88/200 drive...and a scsi card for my pc

to you think i should try to connect a chain like

PC--SYQUEST---3K

to try the same ?

i am so thankfull for every kind of help or advice
thanx

Honestly when it comes to SCSI and ZIP I think you need to play around with what responds best to yours. I went out and bought one external IOMEGA Zip 100 for my MPC3000 and one INTERNAL IOMEGA IDE ZIP drive for my pc. They seem to be the standard. The total I think cost me less than 40 bucks on ebay.

thank you all.

after hours i tryed to install my old syquest 44/88/200 drive an a adaptec 2940 scsi card ....instead of a zip

PC with Adaptec SCSI Card----SCSI SYQUEST---MPC 3000

i followed all the rules rohan and tal gave me and ..BINGOO :D

it works perfekt. ok with this in mind i did the same thing with the zip.drive

PC with Adaptec SCSI Card------SCSI ZIP----MPC 3000

and

BINGOOO ...everything works perfekt

again....with this in my mind.....what was wrong``???

it must be the internal IDE ZIP DRIVE from my first try that failed

and BINGOOOOO ....it was a JUMPER sitting on the wrong place

because there where two rows how to install and to set the jumpers.
last week i decide to take the shema with the big black frame and THAT
was the wrong one. so i set the jumpers to the factory setting (all junpers off) and everything works fine...the mpc can read the files and my programs

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for helping me

i do my my best to help other guys with other probs =)

so have a nice day

partybooy :P
