I NEED A GOOD CD-ROM READER FOR THE 2KXL

I need a new scsi cd reader.......adybody got any Ideas. I was using a S.A.F. scsi burner.......I didnt know it when I brought it that was when this firstcame out cost me like 4bills but its on the last leg......I learnt that if you aint using it dont keep it turning.......need a new one can anyboy help, recommend, or something. Or better yet what drives are compatible with the 2kxl cd reader only

go to a computer store that has used parts and get a scsi drive. it should only cost $10- 15. replace the reader in your external box like you would the cd rom in your tower and your set. you already have the cables and the conversion is done in the box and not the drive.

as long as its a 68 pin scsi drive it should work. just make sure it can be set to scsi id, unless your external box does it and that the drive works. I just went through 2 before I found a working drive, and once I connected it
it worked perfectly. I'm not sure of the brand but it works with my mpc and my asr x-pro. I don't think its drive compatibility but scsi connection issues as there are many forms of scsi interfaces.

actually, count the connector inside your external box and make sure the scsi pins match( 68 pin to 68 pin and so forth) then find a scsi drive and connect it to the external box and your box will convert it to match your mpc and read the data.

go to a local PC store and ask for old equip, I got one for free and a store near me had them for 5$ a piece on this table just sitting there.

I use the NEC 4XE and it works fine.

If at all possible take the cd rom out of the case and take it with you. That way you can make sure you get the right replacement. Do Not tell them that it is for a music application. I've seen places jack the price up on stuff like that because you're using it for muiscal purposes. We have a couple of places here that do that ish.

I have tried a few CDROMs with Akai MPC2Kxl and S2K. Check out Luca's site for some info. I recently had the PS on an ext box die so I had to chase up a new ext scsi box (harder in this day and age than getting CDROM drives). I bought another Apple CDROM which works, and I have an old Matsush!ta CDR that works. I tried a Hitachi that
didn't work. I believe old NECs are actually not recommended, but perhaps newer ones are OK. You have to really try them out and see unfortunately. I actually tell them it's for a music device, I find 2nd hand computer dealers don't mind and find it quite interesting rather than ripping me off, and it explains to them why I'm being so fussy about what I get.
