What Are .SETS What's The Difference of t .SETS & "KITS"?

Yo, Fam not really a newbie but I got a newbie type question because I am a bit confused. Because I thought I knew what all this was please help me clarify.

1. I have an MPC2K non xl and 60II they both have a file or program called a "SET" What is that and how do you set one up?

2. What is a "KIT" is it the same as a SET? I hear cats on here say that they set up drum kits alot what do they mean by this and how is this used in production? Pros & Cons of using these SETS and KITS?

So its like if you have a huge number of snares and kicks on a disk or drive and you want lets say you want to use the same kick and snare you used for "X" beat and now you want to make a different track using the same set up for a new song lets call it song "Y"? Is that what you mean? Just an easier way of saving frequently used group of sample = "sets"?

i could be wrong as its been awhile since ive messed with any 60 OS other than the 3.10e version but...

i think .set files are an older type of .pgm file, for older OS versions... you would save all you .snd files assigned to the pads in a .set file instead of a .pgm file... but like i said its been awhile since i used an older OS, plus im a li drunk at the moment, so i probably am wrong....
