Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Okay,
Akai have just released the MPC1000 and it looks pretty good, but no delay, no timestretch and reverse of samples. The USB port makes it enticing and it size is cool for someone who wants to travel alot. Other than that it can't do much more than a MPC2000XL. Also it is really cheap. BUT, I don't think I will convert. If it was 24bit 96khz I wouldn't think twice.
I can't imagine too many new MPC users, and I mean new i.e has never used an MPC, getting the 2000 over the 1000. It is just too cheap. So now AKAI have a gap in the market between the 1000 and the 4000.
I tink the next obvious step is to re-release the 2000 but with 24bit and 96khz then they have holed up that area of the market and I personaly would be one happy chappy.
What does everyone else think.

24bit and 96khz wouldnt really make a major difference unless your using live instruments to sample cause if its off a record, cd, tape it has to be 16/44. and if akai did decide to add 24 96 to a 2000 then they would have to replace the 32 mb ram cause that cause 24 96 would eat it the 32 mb sample time all up. so then they would have to put a new mermory system in it.

yeah, the mpc2500 is coming (one of these days)...

my wish list:

16mb flash memory as standard
64 mb of memory
a CV out for interfacing with old school synths and sequencers (like that'll happen)
usb for editing and smaple transfer and scsi so i can use all my legacy disk drives, cd burners
a new effects card (with 8 channels)
and internal analouge filter
a lfo (you know you want one)
rosewood or oak wooden side pannels (none of this fisher price sh!t, thank you very much)
two sliders and 6 q-links that can send real time code to other instruments
hell, a valve (tube) stage would be nice to (like on those korg boxes)
a compressor for every sound (just like the filter section now)
a rock solid os
recycle like beat chopping (unlimitted number of cuts automattically assigned to the pads)
32 part multitimbral
old school grey color
a price tag under 2 grand

did i leave anything out? :D

The MPC1000 is cheaper in price but has most of the major features less the ones you mentioned, but it can hold more memory, has a bigger brighter screen, faster loading times, and the effects are sounding alot better from what I've heard... I own an original MPC2000 and am considering switching over to the 1000 but my only problem is it won't read my mpc2000 snd files and i have tons of completed beats on zip that I am not sure are fully compatible... the individual sounds have to be .wav format in order for the 1000 to read them and this will be a tedious process to convert... this is what held me back so far but in my head the thought is still lingering to try the 1000.

Do timestretch and reverse outboard on PC/MAC, be creative and simulate a delay using the pads and velocity or something like that...

Lampdog You are right about the delays and reverse. I play in my delays as it is often but for some things like percussive belss or somthing it can be tricky. I am more concerned about the 1000 having the same bit rate and frequency specs. This was a major letdown. Not an error 'cause they should get heaps of new customers but eventually this decision could let them down. People are wanting to go into the future and 16bit is the passed and it doesn't matter if you love it( I will still use it for drum sounds and stuff), 24bit has become standard in music and this leaves the new MPC lacking.

I thought vinyl was analog and to draw an analogy if you take a polaroid photo of a polaroid photo do you think the latter will have the same quality of the original? I figure the same is true of audio becuause when you are sampling it is an analog signal not digital. Higher quality samples will lead to higher quality finished product no matter what your original or final quality is. Unless your process requires for lower frequencies or bit rates your statement is a moot point. No disrespect intended.

I resubmitted becuase of some mistakes...sorry
