why so noisy

By boomspot Mon Mar 13, 2006 12:06 am
good question. the 60 was bought off ebay ... each sample/pad seems to add more noise to the outputs.

yeah, swifters work very well :) The 1st one is the mpc60. Not sure why it's so noisy. I have it wired exactly the same way as the 2500. Guess it's just an old ass machine ...

I agree with the swing/feel. I just wish the machine was quieter. Can any 60 users comment about the noise floor on these units?

The second one is much better.
The noise on the first one makes it useless to me.
The stereo field is also totally collapsed on the first one and is good on the second.
The old S-1000 sampler sounded like this too. I know, I still have one sitting collecting dust in a rack.
There were a lot of products at that time that had an issue of their left/right stereo samples being 1 sample out of phase, Roland had it until they fixed it on their samplers and Akai had it too. It would put stuff at about 12kHz 90 degrees out of phase and made the stereo field sound like crap.

How did you set the swing time? To the same numbers or by listening to them?
I would bet the swing issue could be matched. They are probably just different swing amounts.

The second file is better by a mile.

Yeah, funny thing is when i was tracking the beat into peak from the mpc60 the left side was much louder to the point where i had to check that the pan was set to the middle. it was.

I left the swing at the default on both machines. I'll fire up the sequence to confirm later today.
