Why the Disk ERA on 2k XL?

Sup ya,

I'm having major issues with my XL and I am unable to determine what the problem is.Here's my situation, working on a track/ready to save/pop floppy in and format in the xl/save/and then boom/try to reload after powering off/xl begins to load/and there it goes DISK ERA...
Can any one help me out on this one?

Seeing that you're using a floppy I'd say throw it out it's screwed. The only way you'll be able to salvage your data if it's possible will be to load the floppy up into your computer and resave it on another floppy. Never store your floppies around speakers or other magnetic items. this can and will cause data corruption if not data corruption and erasure. One more thing when you go to load your floppie sounds into the PC any sample name longer than 8 characters will be shortened and if you have the samples saved in a pgm you need to remember the names of your samples over 8 characters long or else your MPC won't be able to read the renamed files in the pgm.

Man I used to have those problems all the tyme, got a SCSI zip drive off ebay for like 30 bucks, dont have anymore problems! But for now, try formating a disk ON THE MPC, then try saving. For some reason sometimes some pc's just like to jack up disks just for no reason. Also try using a different outlet, where u are.

dude, I've tried all that...At one point i was using a zip drive and i had to toss it because all i would get from that was disk eras also..Tried new disk and still got eras...It worked great for a while till me and a friend hooked up and he loaded a track on my mpc through the zip and re saved it on one of my zips and that was the begining of the issue..My whole zip disk got corrupted and i couldnt retrieve any beats,sounds etc.....

Some one gotta know a fix for this...Please reply....

It may be time for a O.S. upgrade. you can download one from Akaipro.com. Giving the fact that your problem extends over to zips as well your problem appears to be the MPC itself. Therefore I would advise getting the upgrade first. After doing so if the problem continues then it's time to send it out for repairs.
