Length of time it takes to produce your tracks.

I was sitting here wondering - How long do you take to perfect your track/beat to get the sound that your looking for. On average. minutes, hours, days? weeks maybe??? I dont know - you tell me





reason im asking is that Im somewhat of a perfectionist and it takes me a good amount of time to get something going that I really like the sound of.

As long as it takes! After a while, you get better and faster.

yeah i'd agree with that! i guess he means you get faster with individual things, but then the problem is that you learn new things, so basically: viscious circle!

I have improved greatly, but I produce somewhat at a slow pace

I spent the entire weekend thinking up one single melody is what got me thinking

are other people taking this long? - I read an article where a professional was banging out 10-12 tracks daily.

when I rush I get a crappy product


/ I have yet to be 100 percent satisfied with one of my tracks is another reason why it takes me so long

given what you have written, you should be able to realise, that it takes as long as it takes. different strokes for different folks and all that. Seriously, once you're happy with a track, and feel it is finished, then that is how long that track took to make. i shouldn't worry about how long it takes you to make a track, i'd worry about the quality.

Linford Christie (british sprinter) can run a 100meters much faster than me, but i still get there, and no one can say i didn't run a 100meters, now can they?

yo check out my myspace. listen to the track "john's basement." that song took me literally all of last summer to make. i finished it toward the beginning of fall.

then listen to before and after. that track took me a week or less to make.

go figure! it really depends on the material and your mood.

i never finish a song in a day though. it always takes multiple sessions, and it should. if you're making songs, not beats, that is.
