Use mpc 2KXL pads on a PC as midicontroller

Hey. Is it possible to use the pads from my xl thru midi on my pc in fx cubase , protools , whatever as a midicontroller instead of buying the mpd16.

searched the forum but can not find answer.

Can anybody tell me how i set it up. lol

Yes, very possible.. Via Midi. You can trigger samples on the pc with the mpc pads..

You now have one REALLY expensive midi controller.

I have tried to set the MPC 2000XL up as a midi controller, and can't seme to set it up the right way. It works fine syncing with midi time code when I record and play back each track into protools. But when i hit the pads in order to trigger sounds from an instrument in protools via my midi interface, no midi signal is coming out from the MPC. Why is that?

Did u follow along exactly with both of your machine/software manuals?

not sure if you already done this... but in the track settings, it says something like S:drums1:off

change the off, the first thing you will see is A1 (midi out a, midi track 1)

so now your midi data from the mpc will come out the MIDI out A, and into your pc on midi track 1

et voila

The problem is that no signal is comming out from the mpc when i hit any pads. I only get a signal when ¨pushing play or stop, but never when i hit the pads. It is easy to see. I got the DIGI 002 rack and hooked the mpc up very simple from midi out A on the mpc and to the midi input on the 002 RACK. then in the mpc i turn on midi time code out A. And a signal comes to the DIGI 002 when pusing play or stop, and you can see that by a light that glows (lol) on ¨the DIGI 002. But i can not make it glow by hitting a pad. That means no signal comes out from the MPC when i hit a pad.

i used it many times when recording tracks into protools. works perfect, but NOT THE PADS


Track settings??? Left from pad bank A there is a track button?? nothing in there works.

Not sure what you are trying to trigger but I will guess and assume something like Battery.

First follow what lampdog said. Set the track to a midi channel in the bottom left hand corner:

Change S:DRUM1:OFF to S:MIDI:1A-Device01

Changing drums to midi will make sure you dont trigger internal sounds in the MPC.

In your DAW set the midi input on the relevant midi track to receive from the relevant midi channel which in this case in 1a. You may just be able to choose the port it is coming in and this will be enough. Not sure 100% about pro tools.

You may have to engage the record button to have the notes coming through. Some DAW's need this. Make sure there is a smaple and sound on the corresponding midi note to the pad you are hitting. The A1 pad in the MPC is midi note 37 or c1# if memory serves me correct. So if there is no sound assigned to this note in Battery you wno't hear nothing when you hit this pad.

It is simple just persist and use some lateral thinking and experimenting and you will get it.

Just to add to this. You do need to have a midi track in record in Protools to see the incoming midi data. Just leave the input on your Midi track in protools to its default setting. ie All 16 input channels on the midi input port on the 002.

I now got the usb pads, and they work.

But as an interest i would like to make the mpc2kXL's pads work the same way.

In the bottom left hand corner of the Screen as I said before. Just above where it says STEP and EDIT. Look harder.
