crash when creating new folder

so I go to create a new folder and save my work and my MPC crashes right when I hit enter. So now I realize that it is crashing every time I create a new folder in root on my Seagate 60G HD. I have formatted the drive now and all seems well but I'm kinda pissed coz I lost a cool groove and I don't want it to happen again. Any ideas as to why this might have happened? OS issue or HD issue?

I had a similar experience last night.

I tried to create a folder called ADE in ROOT and it created the folder ok but it created another in a subfolder off ROOT, like this - LIVE\ADE.
So I ended up with 2 copies of the folder, one in ROOT and the other in ROOT\LIVE\. Both suggesting they had the same contents.

Then, lots of Samples / Programs and Sequences I tried to access kept returning "SYSTEM ERROR".

I manged to get most of the content back off to the PC via the USB, but I lost the LIVE folder and the ADE folder. And considering the amount of time I spent setting up the LIVE Sequence, I'm well pissed off.

Considering the "Rock Solid" title that the MPC's are sold under I feel slightly gutted to say the least.

And yes, this is with the latest OS.

So I've reformatted the disk, done the OS again and reformatted afterwards as well. Spent hours copying it all back on again and now right back to where I started about 1 week ago!
I'm gonna be backin up every week to the PC now, so hopefully that will stop this from becoming an issue, but if anyone can tell me if these are problems that everyone is dealing with I'd like to know.

I actually brought this to get rid of the PC and Windows enviroment but it looks like I can't rely on Akai OS and Microsofts seems more stable?????? Arghhhhhh.

I havnt had that problem. I had "wrong file" errors when reloading
Samples or programs in the begining but I dot have that problem anymore.

Make sure that when naming files that your file or sample names are not too long.
Make sure when you install samples that they are the correct sample rate.(thats impotant)

The MPC2500 is pretty solid. I just think mabe if you check these things mentioned you may
find the problem. Not to say that I could be wrong. Check your sample rates first on the samples your using.

None the less I would say hd problem first.

I think Akai changed the filesystem with 1.1 - hence the recommendaion for reformat - Im thinking that post reformat you should be ok...

Oh snap! I read that post too. I would do what he says. Not everyone had to reformat after updating the OS (me), but in this case subvert has to be on to something.

well I installed the HD after I updated to 1.1 and I formatted the drive after installing so I'm not sure?

I also have been getting the "wrong file" error message when I load programs that have been changed and re-saved. It drives me NUTS...

Yo this crap happened to me today! Luckily I backed up most of my stuff but I still lost some good ish!
I loaded a folder and the program file was corrupt. In program mode the instruments I used wasnt there instead it was a bunch of mumble jumble with crazy Lvl,Tune,Range values. And this was for pads I wasnt even using also. So I rebuilt the program with the same instruments and the same happened. I went to create another folder to save it in, within that same rootfolder and it froze. I couldnt delete it. I usb'd the machine and transfered files I could save. During this process my computer would not trnsfr the corrupt programs and files alike, but it still would not delete that new folder that froze my 2500. during this process some of my wavs that I have reloaded many times to play ended up currupt thus the sstorchhh I used in that program was corrupt needless to save unsalvagable. I lost data and many folders that was built IN THAT 1 ROOT FOLDER
To tell you the truth i think it has something to do with how many folders I had in a root folder. Too much. I had over 20 and some of the folders had way too many .wav files in it from me not creating programs particularly for that sequence(s). I would have unnecessary programs & .wavs saved to the folder because I may or may not have used a .wav from it that I was using for the sequences created.
I don't do that now but I used to and I believe that is the case.

New rule:
No more than 10 folders in one root folder now, along with only saving the wavs I used in it and nothing more (of course).

Those that I saved like that was when I was learning the machine but I really know better now.

I called Akai support and the dude didnt know dik! None the less I reformatted my HD and fixed the program that corrupted in the middle of me saving.
It's for the best . Fresh start with only the files I use and saving new work properly. Hopefully this wont happen again.

Why call tech support when you have the best tech support here. The best thing you can do is post your problem here or just email tech suport Japan or USA about your problem..and it will get fixed one day. I have found that the bozo's that answer the phone 99% of the time don't know jack.....

Ok can someone please explain the proper way to set up folders. I never had any folder problems on the 2000xl because I would use a disk for a couple of tunes and it was easy. How many ROOT folders should you have? How is the right way to do it? How do you save your programs? ....I set up a Folder for each Seq. containing any new programs ,samples and seq. and then save everything to one ROOT folder on my CF card.

But after reading this post I'm doubting my ways.....any help?

Had you recently loaded new data (samples/programs/whatnot)?
I experienced that same issue with my Seagate (100GB) after loading a bunch of samples.

After I removed the data everything was fine. I have not finished troubleshooting but I think it may have been a corrupt file or maybe a couple of samples with duplicate names.

My HD has been rock solid since the Upgrade. Much better than before.

I would do exactly what I have explained in my post. I think its fine if you have many sequences to 1 song saved to 1 folder with the corresponding programs and wavs. whatever is associated with and thats it. jus t if you have a folder where you put all your song folders at dont put more than 10 or mabe less. Some how files come up corrupted.
Tech support told me dont put more than 200 folders on the root also.
And always back up to cf card or external HD. This is most definitly a O.S. bug because wavs that were once usable all of a sudden becomes corrupt and programs too.

Be cautious saving and dont overcrowd your folders with unnessary data.
Akai need too look into this. this is urgent.

I havent had any serious issues with 1.1 and saving - just those browser irregularities that I posted, but this is good to know

BOLLIX to that - you shouldnt have to worry about how many forlder or files you have, and where, this is due to a bug in the filesystem and it needs correcting.
