whatup people. can someone please elaborate for me exactly how MSB, LSB, and saving module settings works in step edit....on a mpc 2000xl????? i HAVE SEARCHED and i did find some helpful info....BUT...i'm not FULLY comprehending it all. first....lemme get the concept straight. with this feature in step edit...am i correct in understanding that this feature will allow me to save my sound module settings (jv 2080 and proteus 2000) in the mpc and NOT HAVE to call them up on the actual module when i load that beat up again????

i need to understand these steps. i know that first i must go to the begining of a seq, then, go to step, insert, do the MSB, insert the LSB, then the actual channel.....BUT.....WHAT THEN????

and....i couldn't find the MSb and LSB numbers in my proteus sound module. i found them in my jv 2080, but not the proteus. HELP!!!!

This is actually a topic that I am looking for some info on too. I have tried unsuccessfully to search for the info, but am still looking. I will let you know if I find anything.

You maybe able to do this via a sysex dump(he he). Pick an empty non looping sequence and name it "sysex" or something similar. Don't set the output of the track on the MPC yet. Go to the sysex dump page on the Proteus. It'll give you a few options as to what you want to transmit. Pick the Program/Preset Map and put the Mpc into record. While the MPC is in record hit the enter button. This should transmit the sysex data to the MPC. To send the data back to the proteus pick the relevant midi output and hit play. The Proteus should automatically receive it. You may or may not run into problems because of the amount of data your sending. if it doesn't work try sending an individual preset. I don't have a proteus but I have tried this successfully on a Bass Station. Also don't forget to turn off midi input filtering in the Midi Menu. By default it's set to ignore sysex messages.

hmm, if this is meant for program changes within program Banks u should try :
msb and lsb are transmitted via Control Change numbers(cant remember which one, but there's full of charts everywhere...)
so u go on the mpc channel u r outputtin midi to the module, insert the msb\lsb control change and try the different numbers and see what it do recall on the ext module...so u can map it yourself...
did it once for my quasimidi tecnox which got four banks of programs...

if u have a DAW as cubase , logic or protools, i suggest u to export the mpc sequence to midi file , import it in your daw, do the settings there(much easier to experiment) and then export back to midi file and re import the sequence in the mpc and check if everything works...

The Bank select messages are controller 0 MSB and controller 32 LSB. Try changing controller 32 first and see if that changes the bank. What kind of Proteus do yo have? The original Proteus is not the easiest to do this on because it uses its own preset request sysex message to change presets but the original midi controllers 32 and 0 bank select should work. I use the sysyex message instead for recalling presets because even if the preset is changed on the module the recorded MPC sysex message will recall the settings for your preset and there won't be a gap while it changes banks. You can also dump individual presets via sysex in the sysex menu. The method is the same as my previous post.

You'll have to browse the manuals for each peice of your gear to see which programs use what msb/lsb and program numbers. The 2kxl
just calls them up according to whatever your OTHER midi connected gear is.

Okay, I almost have this, BUT when I try to add the MSB/LSB and Program change at the beginning of the sequence, the sequence has to run through once before it takes. Is this normal, or m I doing something wrong?

Usually a program/bank change should be instantaneous. Again it might be the proteus taking its time in changing. Two things you should watch out for though: Make sure that the sequence with the control change isn't looping or the mpc will be spitting out the control change every time it loops. Secondly make sure the proteus is not sending the controller back tto the MPC via the midi out on the module. You'll get a midi feedback loop if this happens.

It's probably a good idea to put all your control change messages in a seperate sequence at the start of the song.

it won't save your module settings, but will save the required bank select number to " recall " it to memory, you could dump multiple bansk off as sysex and use the mpc;'s sequencer to load them into the module, but thats a whole new kettle of fish. i asked the saem question and it was answered perfectly by another user, i'd suggest finding the post and re-reading it- cause it was crystal for me.

I have done this in the past for my Mo-Phatt. I'm not in front of my rig now, but will check it out tonight, and let you know - at least for the Proteus.

Can anybody help me with this??? I have already read the manuals and still don't understand a doggone thing about the tecnicalities of this or how to do it.. I just have a Roland JV-1010, and it's sort-of like the JV-2080, so I am mainly directing the main part of this message on how to do this to those who know how to do this on the 2080 since the modules are quite similar... Peace.
S II

Hit me up on this board, The E-mail, or Myspace page as soon as possible Please. I still have the module on and won't shut it off until I can save the data (it's a dooooooope beat).

the above describes what you want to do with a motif and proteus 2000, just check to see what the procedure for triggering a dump from the 1010 is and you should be good...
