Report Card:What grade would you give OS 1.10

It's been almost 6 months since Akai released the 2500. We have received one OS update that has fixed most of the major problems and new features have been implemented. All the new features were on previous wishlists.

So far, I would give the MPC 2500 a 'B' for this reporting period. I have put together my Top 10 list of things to add/improve (besides fixing bugs) to get it to an 'A'.

In no particular order:

1. Place note shift back in the Swing Menu.
2. Multiple Continuous Sample Tracks
3. Ability to assign 2 MIDI channels per track (like the MPC 3000)
4. Compatibility with ALL Akai, Roland, Emu, file formats/CD Roms
5. Auto assignment of samples to a Program upon loading
6. Sample editing: Resampling (lower or higher bit/sample rates)
7. MTC sync/MMC
8. Effects/dynamics: EQ per pad, more effects
9. Generate Sequence data for chopped samples (like Recycle)
10. MSB/LSB setting presets for major synths/sound modules


Ok...I was just being lazy with #10

I am curious to know what grade you would give this current OS 1.10 and features/functions that you would like added/subtracted.

Add and remove section option in trim edit ala 2000xl.

This is basicly preventing me from sampleing into the 2500 . Could save a lot of time.

I give the new os update an A- basicly it fixed everything I wanted fixed..... but oviously like all of us I got my feature requests ....I would like to see simult back in the cut like the mpc60,2000,xl and 3000 or filtering for each layer ...its that simple....if akai can manage that I will never need to post another thing on this board except THANK YOU AKAI

All I need is auto chromatic and numbers 1,2,4,6,7,and 8 off Jeromes list.
Then I would give it a A+.

yep, as already stated - add filters per layer

plus any kind of direct to memory USB implementation rather than just mounting the HD.

I won't list all the stuff other people have already said, but a new thing is

I want to be able to save different time correct options with the sequence they belong to,
at the moment you have to set a global time correct which quantizes all beats and ***** them up sometimes.

I reckon that the current OS should be rated at a C. I find its still pretty flakey. But much better than OS ver1.0

I would like the following features / fixes.

1 - To be able to create Chromatic Programs. (Just found you can make these in BlueBox Editor)

2 - Multiple select using the shift key in Mixer Mode (to select multiple FX / Pans / Level outs etc.)

3 - I would quite like the TimeStretch feature in Trim Mode to be a little more intelligent so it works out the correct bars for the tempo. Forget this - I needed to be using patched phrases.

4 - Fix display bug in Grid Edit mode when you get up to 100 bars.

5 - Has anyone found a problem in Grid Edit Mode where if you use the Shift key to select multiple Events on different pads, the copy and paste doesn't work properly? If so - that needs fixing also.

6 - 2 MIDI channels per track

7 - I would buy the CD player if it accepted all AKAI format CDs. So that.

8 - What I really would like is the Input Thru to be able to record while you are playing back (which it can do already) BUT, when you select the pad to assign the new recorded sample, I would like the Input Thru to keep Thru'ing. Because at the moment it silences the Input Thru sound.

unless I misunderstood what you meant, you can already have chromatic programs. for example you get one bass sound and just pitch shift it up pad by pad semiton by semitone for every pad. once I did this I could play bass lines using the pads or my keyboard controller and both worked.

I know that the pitch shift makes the sample faster but you can still make chromatic programs.

I think a good feature to add would be the ability to pitch shift WITHOUT speeding up the sample.

Yeah true but its AUTO CHROMATIC we need to save time. it can be done

It's got most of the stuff i want but it's annoying to fix one midi bug only to get another. Not being able to play any notes lower/higher than the 64 provided by the mpc sucks big time.

Yo man, I would have to second that J. eing able to pitch shift without speeding up the sample, that would just be sweet...

It won't do it for you automatically..but the 2500 can change the pitch without speeding up the sample.

It won't but it NEEDS to. That will make me EXTRA happy. Autochromatic tuning baby! Other than that, I guess I would give it a B+ as well.

aswell i d like to see the trim menu play samples in mono ...not note off....and the chop shop cut stereo samples up and conver the chops into stereo slices instead of mono..............but simult or filters for each layer is my main concern!
