while I agree, that there are some great sounding soft-synths, the specrtrosonics, arturia, and korg especially.

there is no way that a rompler program , ie sampletank, or plugsound, will sounds as good as a motif.

does battery sound as good as mpc? no. just my opininon.

I don't use romplers, or VA's though just samplers.

while softsamplers are easy to use, and very unlimited. I use them all. I have not found one that sounds as good as my s5000, or my mpc.(motu sound card)

A software sampler can sound just as good as an MPC if it's sampled into the computer properly, good converters, preamp, etc. I'm not just a software user, right now I don't use any but I know better than to say hardware is untouchable, I'd prefer a software set up right now.

if you are using an apogee rosetta 200 with a firewire x card as your interface

the mpc will sound like the cheap piece of $hit that it is in comparison, this is not an opinion it is a fact.....

that being said i still use the 2kxl and an eps 16+

software will win in the very near future because more and more companies will follow kontakts lead and make programs that enable us to make beats or enhance our existing ones by using programming languages like C++. (the true way to make computer music!)
i think by the time they get to the apple g8 the processors will rival or surpass the potential of synclavier. everyones saying hip hop sucks these days, i agree. but in terms of production i think were in store for some of the most mind blowing and cutting edge tracks that people have heard in the last 30 years.

Good luck with seeing that, Apple switched to intel earlier this year.
