Newbie Question

I have searched the forum, but couldn't find a direct answer to this question. How can I load .wav samples from my computer to a CD-ROM and have my MPC2000 recognize them? Is this even possible? I currently have a Sony External CD-ROM Drive connected. thank You.

Is your Sony drive a scsi drive? If so scsi 4 should be your CD ROM channel. If this is not the case then you will need to get a compatible drive for your sampler MPC 2000. But once you got the right set up it's no different than extracting from a CD when you use your PC except your load menu is your directory rather than the my computer screen on a PC.

Yes My CD-ROM is a SCSI. I bought it from scsiforsamplers. I burnt a few wav's to a CD-ROM but when I put the CD into the Drive it gives me a SCSI READ ERROR! I know the MPC will not read .cda files which is what the files are converted over to when I burnt the CD. Is there a way to make an Akai compatiable CD?

the MPC will only read wav. and snd files. What burning software are you using?

I have Windows xp so I just dragged the wav files to the CD-ROM Icon and copied them both as data files and then as audio files on 2 different CD's. Neither one of them worked.

First things first remember the MPC doesn't handle real audio only when you're in the process of sampling. Just about everyone has Soundforge, NERO and NTI to name a few. One thing you can do is choose the save to HD (hard drive) options and where you choose your output format select wav/pcm. As for the destination I would probalbly have a folder on my desktop for transferring purposes given the name of your choice. Hit start and sit back. Oh yeah, Magix audio cleaning lab is cool too. If you don't have NERO already you can go to their website and download a trial version. I believe it will still let you convert files. or you can get a file convertor here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com

I don't think you are understanding my problem. I have no problem getting the files converted to wav, my problem is, I can't get the MPC to recognize the wav files that are burned on the Disk. I used Nero to burn the files, and they were burned as wav's but still the MPC will not recognize them.

O.K. are they 16 bit and the sample rate 44.100HZ?

Yes, I do believe they are!!

I have never heard of an standard MPC2000 owner who has successfully got their MPC to read a PC formatted CDROM. Works fine with an XL.

I'm not sure the 2000 can read standard CDROMs (ISO9660). AKAI format CDROMs may be needed.

Any MPC2000 (non XL) users been successful in this? I've asked before but got no response.

Ive never done it, but i'd assume (as you probably do as well) that the way to go about it would be to save all the samples you want to burn on a mpc2000 formated hard disk and use a program like Toast to create a disk image of that hard disk... Then you burn that disk image file to cd and the mpc should be able to read it:).

Think that'd do the trick or does it sound too easy?
