Audio Question

Hopefully im not being to much of a newbie here... but I have a question. I am using Logic Pro as both a sound module and a place to bounce down my audio. Now, if I have cables going out of my M-Audio Quattro (USB interface for audio) into my mixer, and then cables going from the mixer into the Quattro... I get a really weird lo quality sound... Is this possible to change? Do I need a different interface? mixer? Im an idiot i know, thanks guys

is the sound like a low buzz/hum, or is it a variable interference that almost sounds like noises coming from the computer? or is it the audio itself sounds low-fi and distorted?

hmmm well i was thinking its a feedback problem; but that descrip doesnt sound like that...

um is your mixer set to 'line' level for the input from quattro (ie not phono)?

ultimately you do also risk a feedback problem with this setup.
does your mixer have any output bus besides the main out:: group out, alt out, aux out, cue out etc?

I have aux out, that gives feedback, CTRL R out... does nothing, and the main out gives it an "electronic" sound... i dunno...

there is no line/phono option that i can find...

'electronic sound' huh, maybe that is phasing and the problem IS mild feedback?

um what happens if you get it playing with the 'electronic' sound from main out, then stop, remove the cable from MIXEROUT->QUATTRO IN... then play again. did that fix the sound?

if so its feedback.

one solution is, when you want to record into the Quattro, leave its mixer channel pulled down; that limits your monitoring workflow though.

basically the 'proper' solution is get a mixer with more than 1 stereo bus, or, use your AUX out to go to the quattro (but the AUX is probably mono, so again, its limiting)

ps. did you mention how you are hearing things? headphones from mixer? headphones from quattro? or speakers? from where?

lame... who woulda thought that a free mixer wouldna worked? haha, well, maybe im jus retarded, im unsure... i have a beghringer Eurorack MX802A... and im listening w/ headphones or speakers coming from the mixers headphone jack. Ya the sound only happens if i have a cable going from mixer out to quattro in

no man, it'll work, now that u have that problem identified.

All you need to do is find the software that controls audio monitoring of your quattro. I'm not sure what it is, but both of my sound cards have 'mixer' applications you can run... you just need to stop the input channel from being played back thru the quattro outs. that will break the feedback loop.
